ALVORD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Distrito Escolar Unificado de Alvord
A Message from the Superintendent....
I hope this week's message finds you and your family healthy and well. Riverside County remains in the Moderate Tier. COVID conditions are improving and the State is poised to get back to normal starting on June 15, when capacity and distancing restrictions are expected to be lifted for most businesses and activities. Please safely enjoy what appears to be a somewhat "normal" summer.
Summer school programs for elementary and middle school students begin tomorrow, June 7th, and continue through July 15th (no school on July 5th - legal holiday). Summer school is conducted on Monday through Thursday (no school on Friday). We are following the current CDPH safety guidelines. Students will be distanced and face coverings will be required.
DATES: June 7, 2021 to July 15, 2021 (closed Monday, July 5th in observance of the 4th of July).
DAYS: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
TIMES K-5: 8 am to 2 pm
TIMES 6-8: 8:15 am to 12:15 pm.
K-5 students will receive targeted support by a certificated teacher in the areas of English language arts and mathematics either from 8:15 to 10:40 or from 11:15 to 1:45. Enrichment in science, music, and the arts will be provided by our Creative Brain staff the opposite time. For example, if a student receives math and ELA from 8:15 to 10:40, they will receive enrichment from 11:15 to 1:45. Sign-In and Breakfast is M-Th from 8:00 - 8:15.
Middle School is from 8:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. M-Th. Sign-In and Breakfast is from 8:15 to 8:45. From 8:45 to 11:40, students will rotate through mathematics, language arts, and enrichment instruction. Grab and Go lunch is from 11:45-12:15.

Alvord Cares & Child Nutrition Services Provide Meals and Support for Families over the Summer too.....
In Closing....
On behalf of the Board of Education, I hope you and your family are able to reduce screen time and safely enjoy the great outdoors this summer. Enjoy your break from school but try to read for at least 30 minutes everyday. The research is clear and consistent when it comes to reading a minimum of 30 minutes a day.
It’s all about consistency. If a student reads at an average pace for 30 minutes every day, she or he will read up to 33 average size books in a year! It's great for adults too. Reading 30 minutes a day relieves stress, improves sleep, and strengthens the brain too. Make it a family habit. You won't regret it.
Have a great summer! We will see you when the 2021-22 school year begins, on August 6.
Stay positive. Stay safe. Be well.
Sincerely,
Allan Mucerino
