Prairie Wind Press
March Edition
Updates from Administration
Dear Prairie Wind Families,
I hope that everyone is enjoying a great weekend. The school year is going by very quickly! Third Quarter comes to an end and report cards are distributed on Friday before Spring Recess. The students are continuing to make gains in their learning. It is a great idea to continue to speak with your child about homework and school expectations. With your support, we can finish the school year strong.
As the warmer days continue to arrive, a few reminders about arrival and dismissal. Please continue to use the bottom entrance up the drive as an ENTERANCE ONLY. The top entrance will be EXIT ONLY. This allows a smooth pattern for traffic. When exiting the parking lot ALL traffic must exit right into the neighborhood. There is a sign that clearly states that that is the law.
It is also important that NON-DAYCARE vehicles not park in the daycare lane. We have several daycare vehicles that are in-home daycares and look like regular cars. It is NOT a 2 lane road to get ahead of everyone else. Staff will stop your vehicle if you are unauthorized to be in the lane. Please be courteous to others and follow the appropriate directions from staff and administration during carpool drop-off and pick-up.
A few other reminders:
- Please be on the lookout for children walking across the crosswalk.
- When you are parking to drop off or pick up your child, please use parking spaces and do not block others.
- Handicap spaces are for use only by those with the appropriate credentials. Please also remember not to leave your vehicle unattended in the drive to pick up your child. This creates traffic issues and is also a safety hazard for the rest of our students and families.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping to make Prairie Wind a great place to be.

Updates from the Nurse
Physical and Vision exams for new students:
Kindergarten and students new to Nebraska for the 2023-2024 school will need a physical and vision exam per Nebraska state law. Please make your appointments with your providers now, as summer appointments can be hard to get into. Kindergarten students will have booster vaccines due after age 4.
Clothing for students:
We have a policy that students will not be given a change of clothing for food spills, mud, and wet clothing from using wet playground equipment. Therefore it's important that parents send a change of clothing for these situations at school. We have a limited supply to help with bathroom and sick messes, so we need parents help. Students feel more comfortable wearing their own clothing.
Update from the School Psychologist
Home-School Conferences
The benefits of a strong home-school connection are abundant. Students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, have better behavior, and show more positive attitudes toward themselves and toward school when teachers and parents work together. However, sometimes it takes effort to create the trusting, equitable relationship between parents and teachers. There are a few things you can do to help prepare for your meeting to make it productive and positive.
· Assemble relevant materials
· Review these materials
· Talk to your child before the conference
· Be familiar with your child’s homework assignments
· Prepare a list of questions you want to ask the teacher
· Be ready to collaborate
Now that you’ve taken these steps, go to the conference prepared to listen carefully, ask questions, and anticipate hearing what your child does well as well as any concerns the teacher may have. Be sure to offer your perspective because although the teacher may be the education professional, you know your child best and can offer important insight and information.

Spring Music Program
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Spring Program on Friday. A friendly reminder that because we will be doing 2 performances, please do not take your child home from school after the first performance. You are welcome to take your child home early if you wish once the 2:00 performance is complete.
