DALLο½₯E2 & Pretty much any program!
So recently, I attended the NCCE (Northwest Council for Computer Education) conference and AI was all anybody could talk about. It came up in half to three quarters of the presentations I attended. Even one of the keynote speakers focused on the impact of AI on the teaching profession and how, NO it will not replace teachers. The speaker even had an AI software, write part of his keynote in real time. It was fascinating, funny and even a little scary. One of the AI tools that I thought was pretty cool and could easily be integrated into the classroom was DALLΒ·E 2. It is an AI system that can create realistic images and art from a natural language description. Essentially type what you want it to created and bam you have an image. No more scouring the internet for that perfect picture to match your slide deck topic. Nope, just type what you are thinking and even the style you want it and presto you have an image. Several presenters used it and showed neat examples.
Lets talk classroom uses. Think about how powerful is it for a program to actually allow for a student's imagination to come to life before their very eyes. I can imagine all kinds of possibilities.
1. Have students write a story and then create a cover, or images to go along with their text. You could use Google Slides, Keynote, Pages, Book Creator, Seesaw, Etc.
2. Have students create an image and then narrate or tell a story about the character they see using Seesaw, Keynote, Slides, Flip, Etc
3. Or show the difference between different art styles, Pointallism, Realism, Surrealism, Gothic or Romanesque by using the same descriptor by adding in a particular style.
The picture in the upper left is what was created by DALLΒ·E 2 when I typed in "Oil Painting of Sasquatch as a Medieval King"
HYPERDOCS & APP SMASHING
Every so often I am reminded of how incredibly powerful the use of Hyperdocs can be in the classroom. They are especially useful when designing lessons were you are app smashing. I had the opportunity to attend a session by David Lockhart @bigguyinabowtie at NCCE who reminded me of this and shared some great resources. You can check out his website at http://www.bigguyinabowtie.com/.
Hyperdocs help you and students plan the process to the final product, whatever that might me. And its within the process where you have the opportunity to App Smash. This is where the design process happens. This is where It can follow DESIGN THINKING, SAMR, STEM DESIGN process, and many more.
Here are some examples curated by David Lockhart:
