The National 4-H Volunteer Conference at Rock Eagle, GA, is scheduled for October 3-6, 2024! We are looking forward to a great time of sharing and learning with 4-H folks from all over the nation!
Flood-related resources are available for individuals, families, and producers who have been impacted by the recent flooding event.
News and information about the flooding event, including donations and volunteering, can be found on the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) website.
YMHFA is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that trains participants to notice the observable and unobservable signs of mental health or substance use challenges, and provide immediate assistance to youth (ages 12-20) in acute or crisis situations. YMFHA "First Aiders" are taught an action plan to proactively and ethically address challenges. Whether you work directly with youth or indirectly with families or professionals involved with youth, the training is ideal for everyone!
The training will be offered from 6 - 9 pm (Eastern)/5 - 8 (Central) on Thursday, October 24, and Tuesday, October 29. Participants need to participate in both sessions (on the 24th and the 29th).
The training will require 2 hours of asynchronous pre/post-work and 5.5 hours of synchronous virtual training. Instructions to enroll and complete pre-work will be provided before the training. Participants will receive materials shipped to the address of their choice upon enrollment.
Contact your County Office to sign up. The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 11, at 12:00 noon (Eastern).
The purpose of the Tennessee 4-H Alumni and Friends organization is to unite people who believe strongly in promoting and supporting the 4-H program. This can take many forms on the local, county, and state levels, including: mentoring, volunteering, conducting project groups, coaching judging teams, becoming financial supporters, and leading special interest groups, workshops, field days, etc.
You do not need to be a former 4-Her to join, and there is no membership fee. However, we encourage our members to financially support the work of this organization and the Tennessee 4-H program.
Tennessee 4-H Fall Judging Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 5 on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Competition will be in the areas of Consumer Decision Making, FCS Skill-a-thon, Dairy Products, Forestry, Poultry and Grill Master Challenge. Good luck to all the participants!
This is the time of year to get persons in your county certified as County 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors (Level 1). Please be aware of two certifications upcoming:
Level 1 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training - November 2 - York 4-H Center, Crossville
Level 1 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training - January 25 - Ridley 4-H Center, Columbia
Contact your County Extension Agent for more information on these certifications. All Extension youth shooting activities must be done by a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructor.
The Tennessee 4-H Volunteer Handbook has gone through a small update to reflect some changes in Extension staffing.
This handbook is designed to give you a glimpse of the Tennessee 4-H program and to show you how you could possibly fit into it.
When thinking about your role, it does not need to be in a leadership capacity (like an organizational club leader or project club leader). You may simply want to help in some simple, small way. Please understand that this is completely OK! Whatever you choose to do, it is important to have a discussion with your county Extension agent so that clear expectations can be established.
There are several 4-H Animal Science events happening in the next few months. Please advise your 4-H youth to be ready for these events, if they are involved in these projects. Contact your County Extension Agent for more information. Events scheduled are:
