Library Presenters Directory
To better connect libraries and presenters to support educational, cultural, recreational, and civic programming in libraries, OLIS has launched the Library Presenter Directory (LPD). The LPD is an online clearinghouse for information about program presenters, as submitted by presenters, for the use of Rhode Island libraries.
For more information about the LPD and additional presenter resources visit the SRP LibGuide at https://olis-ri.libguides.com/SRP
Librarian's Guide to Homelessness
OLIS is pleased to offer access to Ryan Dowd's Librarian's Guide to Homelessness Online Training to all public library staff, trustees and friends through January 2021. The online course covers the same material as Ryan Dowd's popular in-person training, hosted by OLIS in December 2019, explaining cycles of poverty, trauma and why individuals experiencing chronic homelessness do what they do, and providing practical tools and strategies for resolving problems through empathy and relationship building.
For more information about accessing the training visit http://www.olis.ri.gov/pd/homelessness.php.
Count all Kids 2020
Children 0 - 5 are considered a hard-to-count population for the census. This is especially true when children also belong to other hard-to-count populations: low-income families, ethnic and racial minorities, immigrants and non-English speakers, and families with complex or non-traditional living arrangements.
For more information and ideas for supporting a complete count of children visit the Census 2020 LibGuide at https://olis-ri.libguides.com/census/children

Stepping Over Print Barriers
How can I best support someone who cannot access print materials?
This is the question that many librarians, educators, and other service providers ask when they encounter people with print disabilities. Fortunately, there are many solutions that will provide those with reading barriers independence and the power of literacy! Join us on Tuesday, March 31 at Warwick Pulic library to discuss how different websites, E-Books, electronic book readers and other accessibility options (like those built in on smart phones) can break down these barriers. We will also provide information on applications such as Read2Go, Seeing AI, Voice Dream Reader, and BARD.
This information will help your patrons who have dyslexia, cerebral palsy, a visual impairment or other reading barriers.
