Students of the Week
Below are the students recognized this week by staff for demonstrating positive character. Great job students, we are proud of you!
Health and Wellness - Family Night
Our next family event is coming on Friday, December 13th. Everyone is welcome, inlcuding community who have no students at GRMS. Below you can read more about what will be happening between 6 and 8 pm that evening.
Basketball Tryouts
We have been announcing these dates each day. Students must have a proper permission slip turned in prior to trying out. You must also plan to pick them up at 4 as we are unable to provide transportation at that time. These are occuring the week of Dec.
Girls Tryouts: Monday and Tuesday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Boys Tryouts: Wednesday and Thursday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Curriculum Corner
On Tuesday, our 8th graders were presented with wonderful options for high school. Representatives from Pedro Menendez HS, St. Augustine HS, and St. Johns Technical HS were here and had a great deal to share. PLEASE take time to look over the options for next year, whether that be one of the many Academies offered, Early College, an IB (International Baccalaureate) or other great options. There is something for every student. If a student applies for and is accepted in a program out of zone, the family will need to be able to provide transportation, unless they have specailzied transportation in place. Below is a picture from the event. Academy Showcases are coming in January. You can learn a great deal by researching at this district web page: https://cte.stjohns.k12.fl.us/academies/
GEMS (Girls Empowered in MS)
This month GEMS students focused on team building. Sandy Calvin, a volunteer from HUGS, joined us to lead the students in an activity where they got to decorate gingerbread houses. A lot of fun was had by all! Please see the pictures below.
Food Distribution - GRMS New Site
The flyer below references Thursday the 5th. However, this will be each Thurday moving forward unless communicated otherwise. There was a great deal of food remainign, so please do not be shy. As a matter of fact, if you know someone who could use the food support, it would be great if you could come and pick some up to deliver.
FAST PM 2
Parents, please see the attached letter regarding upcoming FAST testing for progress monitoring window #2. Our 8th graders will be testing on Monday and Tuesday next week, December 9th and 10th. Please have them here on-time as it disrupts the environment when they enter after students have already started.
Best Buddies - Chipotle
Take the night off from the kitchen and support Best Buddies. Be sure to use the code on the flyer. Thank you for your support!
Thank you - KB Homes
We appreciate KB Homes for donating supplies for our PBIS program. Students earn tickets and have opportunities to spend them on varying items. Below are what they donated, then a flyer of some of the items students have been purchasing throughout the year. We have been using funds friom the school-wide fundraiser, and have not depleted them yet. But we still appreciate any donations. If you are unsure about items that would be used, feel free to email Mr. Wilson.
Girls Basketball Clinic
The opportunity below is for girls only, and is taking place at Flagler College.
Academy Night - 8th Grade
It's time for 8th graders and their families to begin thinking about high school. The PMHS Academy event is promoted below. If you have questiosn moving forward, the Academy Specialist at Menendez is Kristina Bransford. In case you have trouble reading her contact information on the flyer, I've enlarged it here. It's easy to zoom in when opening on your phone.
JV Baseball Tryouts - SJMSAA
An opportunity for students to play baseball is below. Note that this is not affiliated with the school so you would need to call the number on the flyer with questions, not the school.
Office Hours
Beginning Monday, August 5th, office hours will be 7:00 am - 2:50 pm, Monday thru Friday.
D(b)ad Joke(s) of the Week
