Kingsley Middle School STAGs!
π¦ Last week, we spent LOTS of time getting to know each other and reviewing our Kingsley Middle School Expectations. With the use of the acronym STAG, students should always be able to remember what it means to "Be A Stag" at school: Safe, Trustworthy, Act Responsibly, and Give Respect. These are the major character areas we will continue to focus on as a district this year.
π€ We also discussed the STAG TAG, which is a small card that students are encouraged to carry with them throughout the day. As students exhibit STAG behaviors, they can earn signatures on their Stag Tags. Full cards (10 signatures) can be used for lots of fun rewards such as entry into marking period celebrations or swag at the STAG STORE. Please ask your child about our STAG expectations and how many Stag Tag signatures they have so far!
Dates to Remember

6th Grade Supply List
βοΈ Some folks are still working on gathering supplies for the year. We have attached the list in case anyone needs to see it again!
π€§ Donations of tissues, sanitizing wipes, and hand sanitizer are always welcome and GREATLY appreciated! We can never seem to keep enough of them in stock. Thank you!
Language Arts
π©· It has been such a pleasure getting to know all of your amazing 6th graders! I have loved hearing about everyoneβs summer and learning more about each studentβs unique personality and interests. Memorizing names has been a challenge, but I think I am close to mastering all 113!
π Last week we focused on activities that allowed us to get to know each other and learn the expectations of our classroom and school. Students also participated in The Marshmallow Teamwork Challenge. This activity was focused on strengthening the team chemistry in our Language Arts groups. For this activity, students were challenged to work as a team to build the tallest freestanding structure using only 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow. Students had 18 minutes to build their structure and then place the entire marshmallow on top of their structure without it collapsing. (Pictures in the link below!)
πΆ This week we will get started with our new myPerspectives curriculum. We will begin with Unit 2: Natural Allies. In this unit, students will learn about the special relationship between people and animals, considering how humans and animals can benefit each other. Students will read a variety of text and view media as they discuss the Essential Question for the unit.
π§ *Please make sure that your child has a set of headphones that can stay at school. These will be needed for Language Arts and for most of the other core subject areas.
Math
π² Math class is off to a great start! We are learning classroom procedures and playing some math games to get our thinking and teamwork skills rolling.
π Homework will be assigned each Monday, and due on Fridays. Our assignment log file is a great place to see what we are working on each day!
Science
π» If you would like to view any of our lessons or go over them with your child, I will be uploading them on Google Classroom. This is also a great resource if your child is absent. They can access the lessons at home.
π Oh, and don't forget, there will be a quiz almost every Friday.
Social Studies
π₯° Welcome to sixth grade! I have LOVED getting to know my new students, as well as reuniting with those I had in fourth grade. This is a great group of kids and I can tell it's going to be an excellent year!
π Our topics for the week are:
- What is geography and why is it important?
- Geographic Tools
- Map Skills
π½We will also be discussing the events of September 11, 2001, and why the day is now referred to Patriot Day.
Art
ποΈ We ended last week with a scavenger hunt so they can start getting to know their Art Studio and Art Tools.
βοΈ Look for "Art Studio Behavior Contracts" coming home Friday. They need to be read, signed (by student and guardian), and returned. It's super important that our Art students take good care of their work spaces and follow the guidelines of the room so EVERYONE can feel safe and free to create!!!

Spanish
π£οΈ In Spanish, we will be practicing how to respond to basic questions such as "What is your name?" in Spanish. We will also be practicing the vowels and other letters of the Spanish alphabet.
π Students will have a daily warm up to be completed in class and it will be graded every Friday, starting this week.
