Downeast School Bulletin
September 13th, 2024
Welcome Back!
Thank you for a great first two weeks of school. It was wonderful to see so many families at our Open House prior to the start of the school year!
We have been busy over the past two weeks establishing routines, procedures, and expectations within the classroom and school-wide setting.
As a PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) School we utilize common language and expectations to provide consistency for students. At Downeast we have four school-wide expectations using the acronym RAMS (Respect All, Accept Responsibility, Make Good Choices, Safety First). Our students are frequently acknowledged for their RAMS behavior using our RAMS stickers. Last week, we began our weekly acknowledgment of those behaviors and students were selected to choose from our book vending machine or earn a prize from the school store.
Out teachers have begun our beginning of year academic assessments. We are so excited about all the learning and growing students will do this year. Stay tuned for family events in which you can support your students success.
An important focus for us this year is attendance. Our district goal is average daily attendance of 95%. At Downeast we setting a goal of 90% each week. If this goal is met students will participate in a field trip to Conant's Apple Orchard at the end of the month. Last week we met that goal with 95% and this week was 94% Thank you for supporting your student’s attendance.
Important Dates:
Contant's Apple Orchard Field Trip (October 2)
Pizza Party PBIS Night (October 10 5:00-6:30 pm)
Trunk or Treat (October 25 4:30-5:30 pm)
Parent Teacher Organization Meeting (November 12 5:00-6:00 pm)
Natural Playground
We have an exciting new addition to our campus! It's a natural playground!. It is a play area that uses natural elements such as rocks, trees, and plants, instead of traditional playground equipment. Natural playgrounds encourage children to use their imagination and creativity, and to learn about their surroundings.
21st Century Clubs
After School Clubs begin Monday September 16th. We have some fun activities for students including Cheering Club, Lego Engineer, Scrabble, and more! New clubs are offered every quarter and a great option for students after school!
