WEEKLY EDITION - April 20th - 24th
Distance Learning - Week Two!
Our first week of Distance Learning is in the books, and I am happy to report that we have the majority of our students online and learning! This is wonderful news. Of course, our staff, students, and parents are still getting used to log-ins, virtual meetings, and accessing and submitting assignments. Sticking with the routine will ensure it becomes easier and easier. We are here for you so be sure to reach out to your child's teacher if you are experiencing difficulty. He/she will help or re-direct your question to someone who can. The main thing is that you are connected.
Please refer to these four important steps to help us help you:
First, be sure that you are receiving school and district communications (i.e. school phone messages and/or email). If you have not been receiving this important information and need to update your phone number and/or email address, please contact our student services clerk at sprice@eesd.net and she will enter the correct information into our system.
Secondly, make contact with your child’s teacher if you haven’t done so already via the digital format your teacher uses the most (i.e. email, Bloomz, etc.). If you or your child has not yet made contact with the teacher, please check-in as they need to know your child is participating for the purposes of state reporting.
Next, you want to make sure your child is digitally connected. Make sure your child has a device (Chromebook, laptop, desktop computer, iPad or another device that connects to the internet). Contact help@eesd.net if you have no device in the family.
Finally, as mentioned before, clever.com is the platform that houses the applications our students will use. You can access all the links (i.e. clever, teacher email, Google Classroom, and other support links) as well as other information from this weekly newsletter, BC Bear Facts - Weekly Edition.
As always, please feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.
All my best,
Tina Croes

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Will new Kindergarten assessments still take place in May as planned?
A: No. Due to the current public health and safety restrictions, Kindergarten assessments scheduled for May 2020 will have to be postponed until the end of summer. The date still is to be determined. We will contact you with further information as soon as it is known. Thank you for your patience.
Q: When will I be able to retrieve personal items my child has left in his/her desk at school?
A: We do not have a safe way of collecting these items and distributing them from a public health standpoint at this time. Our main focus and planning as been on launching and supporting our digital distance learning format at this time. As soon as we can shift this focus, likely after a few weeks, our district leadership team will be making a plan for safely distributing personal items as well as collecting school library books.
Q: Is graduation canceled?
A: At this point, the chances of our traditional graduation don't look good. However, it is still too early to make the definitive call. We have plans to celebrate our graduates with an alternative to a traditional graduation ceremony depending on the social distancing requirements down the road. We WILL honor the Class of 2020, so stay tuned!
Q: Will there be a 2020-2021 teacher request week?
A: There will be a teacher request week, but our first priority is to ensure our distance learning model is off to a good start. Please watch the Monday newsletter FAQ section for further information.
Q: My child would like to turn in their enrichment packet that was completed before Spring Break. We will be able to turn in this packet?
A: Students can hold onto the packets for now as we do not have a safe way of collecting them from a public health standpoint at this time. If that changes, we will make a plan for collection for those who have saved it and want to turn it in.
Q: Why am I receiving late notices for overdue library books when school is closed and I have no way to return books?
A: Our library system has a feature that automatically generates and sends overdue library notices. Until it was brought to our attention, it was one of those things we didn't think about. The feature has since been turned off. You shouldn't receive overdue library book notices going further.
Q: When will we be able to return library books and/or completed packet work?
A: Our main focus right now is making sure we are prepared to move forward with distance learning on April 14th. After that, we will look at safe ways to bring in library books and completed packets that parents wish to return.
Q: I ordered spring pictures. How and when will I receive them?
A: Lifetouch has been contacted about spring pictures. Like many businesses, they do not have employees coming in to complete non-essential work at this time. They cannot give a timeframe as to when this will happen until some of the restrictions by the state/country have been lifted. They do have the images, so my best guess is there will be a delay in receiving these pictures. How you will receive the pictures is still unknown at this time.
Q: I ordered a yearbook. Will BC still have one for 2019-20?
A: The answer is yes. Lifetouch has communicated that if we do not return to school this school year, they will arrange for a late pick-up or they will mail the books directly to families who ordered one. The last day to order was April 19, 2020.
