Principal's Update
Hello Leopard Families-
We hope that you enjoyed the weekend with your family!
SPOTlight Night:
Please join us this Thursday evening for our SPOTlight night! This event is come and go from 5:00-7:00. You will have the opportunity to see a selected piece of your child's artwork on display and visit your child's classroom. Our Book Fair will also be open for shopping in our library. We look forward to seeing your family!
England Book Fair:
We're looking forward to our library's Spring Book Fair next week, May 6-10! Students can shop cashless during the school day next week using money that adults have pre-loaded onto their student's Scholastic eWallet account. Adults, please complete a Shopping Ticket for your student once funds have been loaded on their eWallet account so your teacher is aware they have money to use when shopping at the Book Fair. Check your child's Thursday Folder from last week for the Book Fair Information Letter, Flyer, and a Shopping Ticket - or - check out our library Book Fair Website for a one-stop shop!
Families can also shop together during our after-school hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:15-3:45, or during SPOTlight Night on Thursday between 4:30-7:00. Credit/debit cards only during Family Shopping Hours; no eWallet account is necessary if families are shopping together after school hours and an adult is using a credit/debit card.
Profits from the Book Fair Fundraiser help pay for our important school & library programs and ensure your children have access to thousands of new & exciting books to read each year.
Thank you for your support! -Mrs. Kupersztoch & Mrs. LaCaille
Library Books:
All library books are due district-wide in one week -- on Friday, May 10th. If your family plans to withdraw for extended/international travel before May 10th, please ensure your student has returned all of their library books before you leave for travel. Reach out to england_library@roundrockisd.org and we can share a list of their books to return. Thank you for your help!
Upcoming Absences:
If your family plans to travel and your child will not be attending school for the remainder of the year, please notify both the classroom teacher and our registrar at shannon_chambless@roundrockisd.org. Additionally, remember to return any library books, devices, and other school materials before your departure. Thank you!
Congrats to our Leopard T.E.A.M.:
April 20th, 20 Elsa England 4th and 5th graders participated in the Texas Elementary Art Meet which is a virtual adjudicated art contest. Art teachers Ms. Bell and Ms. Olufsen are proud to announce that students did phenomenal work with a large percentage of them receiving perfect scores. Others had very high scores with judges complimenting them on their skill and creativity. Two students won the high honor of "Top of T.E.A.M." which is only awarded to 391 students out of 5,863. We are so proud of all of them!
Class of 2024 Senior SPOTlight:
We can't believe it's already time for our fifth class of Leopards to graduate high school! These 130ish smart & sweet students were our fabulous 5th graders in 2016-17. They helped us learn, grow, and build our foundation as a school, and they continue to pioneer and pave the way as they graduate and pursue their dreams. Many of them started with us as 1st graders in our first year open; 2012-13!
As a way to honor our seniors, we'd love to hear from all of them and give them a virtual high-five and internet shoutout!
Can you please help us spread the word to our Class of 2024 students about this opportunity?
Senior Info Form: Former Leopard Senior SPOTlight - c/o 2024
We're also asking our seniors to please mail us a graduation invitation/announcement with pictures! We will be making a Graduate Wall with the announcement for display when you come for your Senior Walk in May.
Please mail announcements & photos to Elsa England Elementary, c/o Emily Kupersztoch, 8801 Pearson Ranch Road, Austin, 78717. You can also drop one off at the school if that's easier. We hope your seniors will return to Elsa England in their cap and gown on Tuesday, May 21st for our Senior Graduation Walk & Reception!
The walk will take place at 8:30. We'd love to see our seniors walk the halls of their elementary school one final time so we can celebrate with them in person!
Updated Dismissal Process begins Wednesday, May 8th:
As part of our commitment to continuously improve school operations and ensure the safety of all students, we are introducing a new dismissal system. We have chosen to pilot this system now, while we are familiar with both our students and parents. This will help us address any potential challenges and make necessary adjustments before the full implementation in August.
Purpose Behind the Change:
- Safety and Supervision: By keeping students inside the building during dismissal, we can better monitor student interactions.
- Comfort: This change ensures that students are not exposed to extreme temperatures, providing a more comfortable environment.
- Orderliness: An indoor dismissal reduces the chaos that often accompanies sudden changes due to inclement weather. It also reduces the number of students in one location as we call out names to go to their vehicles.
Collaborative Effort:
This new system has been developed in collaboration with our dedicated staff and parent representatives. Our aim is to refine our dismissal process to make it as efficient and safe as possible.
What Does This Mean for You?
The most significant change for you will be the way your child is dismissed. Students will now be dismissed directly from inside the building. This shift is intended to enhance the safety and organization of our dismissal process.
New Dismissal Placards:
- Distribution: You received your child's new placard in last week's Thursday folders. We also sent an email with a copy so that you had access to print a new one if needed.
- Usage: Starting on May 8th, please use this new placard during dismissal. Each student is assigned a unique number, which will be linked to their name in our dismissal system. This ensures that your child is dismissed from their designated location within the building efficiently.
Implementation and Feedback:
We anticipate that adjusting to this new system may take a few days. We kindly ask for your patience and feedback during this transition period. Your insights are invaluable in helping us optimize this process.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. It is only with your cooperation that we can create a safe and efficient dismissal process for our Leopards.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to assist and ensure a smooth transition for everyone involved.
Dropping Off Lunches:
We understand that mornings can be rushed and that can result in lunches being left at home. We're happy to help in getting these lunches to students after they are dropped off. However, we are experiencing an increase in lunches being dropped off daily and do not have the staff available to maintain the volume that we are receiving. Due to this, please plan to send lunches to school with your child in the mornings and only drop off lunches that may have been forgotten. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Early Pickups:
Planning to pick up your child early? Please try to do so before 2:00 pm, and don't forget to bring your ID. This helps us ensure a smooth and safe pickup process for all. Thank you in advance!
We look forward to a week of learning and fun with our Leopards! Thank you for your continued support!
In partnership,
Krystall Williams
