From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
This weekend, sixteen Zion eighth graders will be at Camp Buckner for our first annual Confirmation Retreat. They’ll learn about the value of prayer and have some fun along the way. Please pray that God’s Spirit would do a mighty work in their hearts.
In worship, we’ll continue our series called “Better Together.” According to the Bible, we were designed for relationships – we were designed to be better when we’re together. But we all have struggles in our relationships that, rather than making us better, make things worse. In this series, we’re looking at the key ingredients we need to make our relationships better. This weekend, we’ll talk about what Jesus has to say about the key ingredient of forgiveness in Matthew 18:15-22:
“If your brother or sister sins against you, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them.” Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
Jesus has ambitious standards for forgiveness! He tells Peter that forgiveness can be offered without limits. But what does this kind of forgiveness look like in real life – especially with people who have hurt us deeply? Find out how to forgive and learn more about this value of forgiveness this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

Loads of Caring
LOADS OF CARING (formally Laundry Love) is now a part of The Caring Place. Loads of Caring will be a wonderful addition to the many services they provide to our Georgetown community. With the support of Zion’s mission board we will continue to be a part of this outreach, hosting several events annually.
Zion hosted a Loads of Caring event September 10th. There were 15 servant volunteers from our congregation who helped 53 family units have clean laundry. Zion is hosting the November 12th event. If interested in volunteering, please contact me.

Members of the congregation may attend if they wish. They need to make reservations by September 22, 2024 and pay $12 each for their catered meal. Please contact Doris Schwausch. "Bringing God's Word to Life for Young Viewers"
LHM's partnership with the SAT-7 PARS channel continues to support 4 original satellite television programs that are broadcast to millions of Persian-speaking children, youth, and women throughout Central and West Asia.
Young viewers benefit from 2 of these that are among SAT-7 PARS' best-known programs. "Golpand" and "Hashtag" use storytelling to bring God's Word to life and teach children core biblical values through interactive games, educational segments, and theatrical plays that are tailored to the audience ("Golpand" reaches children ages 5-13 and "Hashtag" engages teens).
These live programs provide a safe and valuable platform through which viewers can connect, learn about the Bible, pray for one another, and share their own testimonies.
"Golpand" has had a big impact on my life and on the things I do," says Deena, a young girl from Iran. "The stories we are told and the questions discussed add so much to our understanding, as do the Bible verses that are shared at the end of the programs. It helps us to be better connected with the world around us."
"I enjoy the stories, songs, and 'around-the-world' segments on "Hashtag", says Nasrin, a teenage girl. "The most important things I learned from the program are to have faith, believe in God, and worship Him without any doubt. Whenever we have doubts or want to do something against God's will, we should immediately think of the stories of the Bible and seek guidance from them."
LHM is looking forward to a new program for youth this fall.
