COMING SOON - OASIS FAMILY FUN NIGHT!

The HSA will be hosting an Oasis Family Fun Night on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:00-8:00pm!! Come out and play at the Oasis Family Fun Center (35 Lacrue Ave, Glen Mills) while helping to support Bethel Springs! The HSA will receive 50% of admission revenue as well as 10% of food sales. This is an optional drop off event, so if you want to leave your kids and go run some errands, simply come inside and sign them in!

There are two ticket options for the event:

• Option #1 - Combo Package ($12): Entrance to the soft playground and ballocity play area

• Option #2 - VIP Package ($25): Entrance to all play areas, laser tag, rock climbing, basketball as well as a $5 game card!

If you don’t want to get the all-inclusive VIP package but want to add on an attraction and/or game card not covered in the admission option you’ve selected, Oasis has add-on options for an additional charge(s). Ask when you arrive and pay for your child. *And don’t forget to wear socks!*

SAVE THE DATE - PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT AT BOARD & BRUSH: We had so much fun at last year’s inaugural Board & Brush fundraising event that we decided it was definitely a go for a second year! Join us on Tuesday, November 19th from 6:30-9:30pm at Board & Brush Creative Studios (331 Wilmington Pike Suite 4, Glen Mills) for a great time meeting new people or with friends while creating your own unique signs and enjoying BYO snacks, “etc.” The number of seats is limited, so book your spot soon! WINNING CLASSROOM ANNOUNCED FOR BOX TOP COLLECTION!

Congratulations to Mrs. Cashell’s Fourth Grade Class for submitting the most Box Tops in the Fall 2019 Collection! The class will be rewarded with an extra recess and special snack with Mr. Piasecki and Mrs. Allen. The fourth grade classes were on fire for this collection, taking first (Cashell-369), second (Durbin-296), and third (Ferguson-271) places school-wide. Check out the following list of classes with the highest number of Box Tops submitted per grade, especially if it helps motivate you to really get your Box Top game on for the next collection: 1st-Mrs. Uniacke (270), 2nd-Mrs. Brennan (192), 3rd-Mrs. Shearn (252), 4th-Mrs. Cashell (369), and 5th-Mrs. Reid (158).

BOOK FAIR POSTER CONTEST: A blizzard of books is forecasted to hit Bethel Springs November 18 - 22! The Arctic Adventure Scholastic Book Fair will be here before we know it, and we’re kicking it off with a poster contest for some pretty cool prizes:

• Students are invited to create & enter a poster around the theme “Arctic Adventure: Snow Much Fun to Read!”

• Entries will be accepted from November 4 - 8.

• Check out the FLYER for remaining important details & specific prizes! (Flyers are being sent home this week.)

Trunk or Treat: Thank you so much to all the volunteers and organizations who helped make Trunk or Treat such a fun

and safe experience for everyone involved! The makers of Sumdog, a popular Math app, sponsor a contest in Delaware County. We are happy to celebrate that Mrs. Levey’s 5th grade class won the contest! Mrs. Levey’s 4th grade class placed 4th and Mrs. Durbin's math class placed 6th. Student winners are Saketh Are - 1st place of all 754 students that participated, answering 990 out of 1,000 questions correctly! Shruti Sridar placed 3rd answering 984 questions correctly. Bethel stands PROUD!!!

Our Halloween parties will be conducted by our Homeroom parents on Thursday, October 31st. Parties for grade 1 will take place at 1:00PM. Parties for grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 will take place at 2:00 PM. Students may wear costumes for their parties. Send the costumes in with students that morning. Students should be able to put costumes on with little or no assistance. Costumes should be safe and appropriate for school, nothing violent or gory in nature. Thank you!

During the week of November 18-22 public schools across the country will celebrate American Education Week, a time set aside for parents and visitors to find out more about all of the great learning that takes place in our schools. We invite parents to visit to according to the following schedule:

Parent/Teacher Conferences are a vital part of communication regarding your child's progress in school. At BSES we always have experienced excellent participation from parents at conference time, something that we greatly appreciate.

Fall conferences will be held on the following dates:

Monday, November 25th 8:00AM to 3:00 PM

Tuesday, November 26th 12:00PM to 8:00 PM

Wednesday, November 27th 8:00AM to 12:00 PM

Please note that progress reports will be issued on Friday, December 13th. Teachers will not have progress reports prepared for conferences, but will have good information and observations regarding your child's progress in school thus far.

Each year BSES engages in the school-wide study of a country to promote cultural awareness and a more global perspective among our students. Each student engages in an art project and a brief research project that culminates in the Art and Literature Fling Exhibit held at the end of May. Every student has his/her work displayed at the Art and Literature Fling. Throughout the year we integrate opportunities for learning about the given country in the homeroom, in others of our special area classes, and through school-wide announcements and activities.

This year we are trying something a little different. Each grade level was assigned an area of the world and teachers chose a country in that area to study. Students will engage in learning about the country chosen for their grade level and will share their learning with the rest of the school. In this way, students will learn about 5 different countries and cultures! Our 4th grade has chosen to focus on the United States with the thought that exploring your own country more deeply is, of course, very important and it gives a foundation for exploring and understanding other countries and cultures.

Below are the countries chosen by each grade level:

We have asked each grade level to research and communicate 20 facts about their chosen country. 5 Countries x 20 Facts =100 Facts. These will be shared in the form of brief video clips created by students.

Dear Parents,

The 4th and 5th grade students of Bethel Springs will have the opportunity to participate in the National Geographic Bee! This is how the Bee proceeds:

1. We have a preliminary competition involving all participants. This will take place at BSES on Wednesday, January 8th at 3:30 P.M. The field will be narrowed to 10 finalists.

2. The Final Competition will involve the 10 finalists and will take place at BSES during the school day on Friday, January 17th at 9:00 AM. One winner will be determined.

3. Our school level winner must take an online test that will be scored by National Geographic. This must be completed and sent by Friday, February 7th. Qualifiers for the State Bee will be notified by Monday, March 2nd. If the student achieves the necessary score on this test, he/she will go on to compete at the State Be in Harrisburg on Friday, March 27th. The state level winner will go on to the National Bee in Washington, D.C.

Students interested in participating can visit the following website to learn more: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/ On this website there are resources that students can purchase to prepare themselves for the Bee. They may also seek out their own geography study resources at the library or on the internet. Students must prepare and study on their own time. At school we will hold three practice sessions. These will take place in the BSES LGI on the following dates:

Monday, November 18th (4th grade 12:00-1:00; 5th grade 1:00-2:00)

Tuesday, December 17h (4th grade 12:00-1:00; 5th grade 1:00-2:00)

Monday, January 6th (4th grade 12:00-1:00; 5th grade 1:00-2:00)

Participants should pack lunches on dates of the practice sessions.
