THE NEW YORK ACADEMY WINTER HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Students, Ms. Cristina, Ms. Shahana, Ms. Umme, and the Teachers are engaged in rehearsals for the NYA Winter Wonderland Holiday Performance. It's going to be great. The kids are going to sparkle, the props and set will dazzle, and the holiday cheer will delight. Please be sure to mark your calendars and join us on Friday, December 8 at 6PM, Pearl City Auditorium.

Growing the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Classroom

Dear Parents,


We would like to inform you that upon return from the NYA Winter Holiday Break (Tuesday, January 16, 2018), New York Academy will make some adjustments to better meet the needs of our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.


The current Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten class enrollment has grown to 18, and so to honour our commitment to a small student-teacher ratio and individualized instruction, we have made the decision to add a third teacher and create a new large classroom in the current Maker Space on the 2nd floor. This will make the student-teacher ratio 6-to-1. There will be classroom helper assigned to the room as well.


We will build out the classroom as a purposed designed learning environment, with learning centers for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. (The Maker Space will move to the current Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classroom on the third floor.)


The learning program will continue to use the Workshop Approach, which differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs of each child.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

Learning through play is a term used in education and psychology to describe how a child can learn to make sense of the world around them. Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.


NYA understands that social and emotional development is just as important as academic achievement. Through play, we guide and coach students to learn from their social and emotional experiences.

  • Friday, December 1 - Parent Coffee with HOS & Principal (After School, 3:30PM @ TKC)
  • Friday, December 8 - NYA Winter Holiday Performance
  • Friday, December 15 - Last Day of School / Winter Break
