Magness Creek Elementary
Week of October 21, 2024
It is Parent-Teacher Conference week! Let's aim for 100% participation in this important event. Report cards and ATLAS report information will be given out at conferences. Come get important updates from your child's teacher, check the lost and found in the cafeteria, and take some activities home for extra practice before the three day weekend.
Here are all the specifics regarding conference week:
1. There will be a 1:00 early dismissal on Tuesday and Thursday for conferences.
2. Conferences will be held the afternoons of early dismissal until 7:00. You can call the office to schedule or reschedule a conference.
3. There will be no school on Friday.
Here is what the research says about active participation by parents in their children's education:
- Academic performance: Students with supportive parents are 81% more likely to graduate from high school and are more likely to attend post-secondary education, earn higher grades, and miss fewer days of school.
- Parent-teacher relationships: Two-way communication between parents and teachers can lead to improved student engagement and academic achievement.
- Health risk behaviors: Students with actively involved parents are less likely to engage in health risk behaviors like smoking, drinking alcohol, and becoming pregnant.
When families are engaged in learning at home and at school, children do better and schools get better!
Upcoming ATLAS Reports
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We’re excited to share some great news! This year, you’ll have access to your child’s Arkansas Teaching and Learning Assessment System (ATLAS) data through a convenient online parent portal. This portal replaces the printed ATLAS score reports, including screener, interim, and summative assessment reports.
Please note that ATLAS is a new assessment system and should not be directly compared to previous testing measures like ACT Aspire.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, students in grades 7-11 will bring home a parent code and instructions on how to log in to the portal, where you can find detailed information about their performance. Students in grades K-6 will receive their codes during parent-teacher conferences on October 22nd or 24th.
Remember, while these test scores offer a helpful snapshot of your child’s learning, they are just one part of their overall academic journey. If you have any questions or need assistance logging in, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school.

In order to volunteer at Magness Creek, you will need to complete a background check every year and have Hallway Hero training once in your lifetime. Please call the office at (501)743-3565 or email your Hallway Hero interest to amy.morrow@cps.k12.ar.us or michelle.atherton@cps.k12.ar.us. We want the Hallway Hero piece to be easy and convenient for our families.
