Hello Haynes Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope that this email finds you well and you are enjoying your summer vacation. I want to start off by introducing myself. I am Bryant Amitrano, the Principal of Haynes School. For the past five years I have been the Assistant Principal and most recently, the Interim Principal at the Merriam Elementary School in Acton. Prior to that, I was the Interim Assistant Principal at the Healey School in Somerville, where I also taught 5th & 6th grade.

I live just down the road in Maynard with my wife Libby and our three children. My daughter Gigi is going into 2nd grade and my son Weston will be starting kindergarten, both at Green Meadow in Maynard. I also have a 22 month old son, Pratt. My family and I love to be active, go to the beach, and swim as much as we can. We also enjoy our fair share of Erikson’s and Kimball’s ice cream in the summer! Below are a couple of pictures of my children from earlier this summer.

I’m grateful and excited for the opportunity to be your principal. Throughout the interview process and transition into the position this past spring and summer, I have heard such wonderful comments of how Haynes is an amazing community. Haynes is a community that values relationships between all of its members because we know that when students feel a sense of belonging and connection, they are better able to succeed in the classroom academically and socially.

Since beginning on July 1, I’ve been able to meet with various teachers, paraprofessionals, district administrators, HOP leadership, and other community members. This past week, I’ve been stopping by Noyes where ESY and the SMILE program are and I’ve been able to meet some students as well which has been great. As I enter Haynes, the conversations that I am having with individuals are valuable in building relationships and also learning more about the school and district.

In order to start building my relationships with parents and families, I will be hosting a Principal Meet and Greet on Wednesday August 9th. This will be an informal opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet me and for me to meet some of you. Weather permitting, we will be out on the back playground, otherwise we can meet in the cafeteria. Feel free to stop by anytime between 9-10am. If you are unable to attend, I will be hosting other parent and caregiver conversations at the start of the school year.

I will be sending another communication in August with any updates as well as operation plans for the start of the school year.

This past week, Hillary DeGroff submitted her resignation from Haynes in order to pursue other opportunities. I want to wish her all the best in her career. With that vacancy, we will be hiring a classroom teacher to fill the fourth grade position. We have started that process and I will provide an update in early August.

We are also in the process of hiring a Special Education teacher for the STEPS program. I will update you when we have filled that position as well.

If you ordered your child's school supplies through EPI School Supplies, they will arrive directly to the school and be placed in their classrooms for the first day. If you missed that ordering window, please see the attached School Supply List.
