MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
131st EDITION: October 18, 2019
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
From the Desk of Mr. Mike Shukis
Dear Parents and Students,
It is hard to imagine that we have already completed 10 weeks of school. It seems like just yesterday we were holding the Freshmen Orientation where I first met the students and was deeply impressed with the Mentor Program. I was also deeply inspired by Shane Gibson’s rendition of a Patrick Swayze dance routine during the dance off with the freshmen class. At this time I can’t help but think of how important it is for all of us to be involved in our children’s lives. These high school years will pass in the “blink of an eye” and soon they will graduate and be out of the house. Let’s all join in their school activities and find the time to do things with them. They will be gone before we know it.
Personally, I think it is important for all of you to know that I care deeply for our school. Every day I find goodness, mostly in your children’s faces, but also in so many other areas. We do know that we have our work cut out for us and we are busy, but the gospel reading of the parable of the sower should give us all courage:
A sower went out to sow. And, as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear. (Matt. 13: 1-9)
This gospel is appropriate given Marian’s recent journey. Just like the seed that is brimming with potential, our students also possess great potential, but they need a rich environment to grow. Marian must become the fertile soil that allows our students to encounter the word of God and understand it so they can grow and prosper. I could not be more excited to team with our parents, our alumni, our leadership team, and our wonderful faculty and staff, to provide the highest quality Catholic Education and to always work to foster an overall environment that allows each and every student to grow in mind, body and spirit. This is our goal.
