After a long winter, we are welcoming the warmer weather. I am reflecting on this entire COVID-19 Pandemic and realize that it’s been over two full years since COVID hit us hard in Alberta. It was been interesting, to say the least. Once again, we are optimistic that the end is near with vaccinations, physical distancing, and appropriate PPE.
For our Muslim population, we wish to say Ramadan Mubarak and hope that your fasting is going well. We recognize that it is very difficult for students to go without nutrition during the school day and we will do our best to support all of our students.
Athletics, field trips, multiple teachers, student clubs, and all the other extra-curricular activities that everyone was missing have been re-instated. We continue to be mindful of new variants and sub-variants. Masks are still very much “the norm” at Gish School, with approximately half of our student and adult population choosing to continue to wear masks. Please understand that school practice and division policy is to honour individual choice. Masks are encouraged and can be worn, but they are not mandatory. Nobody will be forced to wear a mask, nor will anyone be forced to remove their masks.
Gish School is now full for Kindergarten for next year, except for Global students who live in Akinsdale or Pineview. On April 13, Gish School will host a Junior High Information Night, starting at 7:00pm. Students and parents will observe our complementary course offerings, and have a chance to hear from the teachers who are teaching those courses. We are fortunate to be a large school with so many different choices for our students.
For the rest of the year, we’re looking forward to lots of productive learning. Be sure to complete the Returning Student Registration for your children, which is now overdue. Gish is very popular and many other parents want to register their children. If you do not re-register by April 15, we cannot guarantee your children a placement, especially if you live outside of St. Albert.
