Addressing Tough Issues in Schools
There are tough issues in school today. We can choose to look past them, or we can choose to address them head-on. As I included in a Friday Forecast several weeks ago, we have heard an increase in hate speech in schools across the USA, including hate speech that includes race, religion, sexual identity, or gender shaming. We have heard an increase in that speech at WMS and other D303 schools, as well. While what we hear is not by any means widespread, it is still an issue that is important to address. We have done some school-wide work to let students know this is unacceptable, and we have continued to assign consequences for hate speech when we hear it and when it is reported. But we know that our work is just beginning on this topic- consequences only take us so far.
We will need to educate our staff on how to manage these issues and support our students who have been victims of hate speech. We will also educate our students to make sure that they not only don't use hate speech but also denounce it. Our very simple expectation is that all students and staff are kind and respectful to each other.
This conversation really, truly starts at home- where all important conversations start. We appreciate your support as we work towards creating a more respectful and kind environment at Wredling.
Enjoy your weekend!Tim

We Want Your Photos!
Parents, the yearbook club is collecting photos of students from sports, music or WMS clubs/activities from August-Dec. If you have photos of your student and their peers in WMS sponsored concerts, plays, sports events or other club activities, please email them to Mr. Massie for submission to the yearbook at timothy.massie@d303.org.
You can also submit directly from your phone with THIS LINK! You will need to use the access code "redhawks". Thanks for sharing your memories with the yearbook club.
PARENTS-
Due to allergies and asthma, we are asking that students not use perfume or cologne at school. For those with allergies and asthma, perfumes and colognes can be a trigger and can cause an attack. If students shower regularly and use deodorant, they should not have a need for cologne or perfume. Thank you for helping us keep kids safe and healthy at Wredling!
Calendar Reminders!
2nd Quarter Non-Attendance Days for Students
December 22-December 30 - Winter Break
PLEASE NOTE ON YOUR CALENDAR!
The Peer Leadership Program for Incoming St. Charles East Freshmen
Dear Parents of 8th Graders Attending East,
Peer Leadership is an extracurricular program that matches selected incoming freshmen with juniors and seniors who make the transition into high school fun and easy and mentor them throughout the year. Because this program meets during the school day, it has to be put into a student’s schedule when registering for next year’s classes. Although we would like to be able to offer this to all interested incoming freshmen, our numbers are limited by available classroom space and our budget. Therefore, in order to start the selection process, interested students should apply using the application found below in this Friday Forecast.
If your child is interested in the program, please fill out the application and e-mail it to Jim Reed, the Peer Leadership Coordinator (James.Reed@d303.org). Completed applications must be received no later than Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. For more information about Peer Leadership, please attend Future Saints Night in January.
We hope to hear from you!
Attention 8th Grade Families:
Eighth graders, are you looking for a high school experience that offers:
the chance to join a small learning community?
a choice and voice in learning activities?
opportunities to explore career pathways?
project-based seminars with hands-on learning?
a flexible schedule with a later start or earlier end to the day?
If any of these criteria match your academic goals or vision for school, Compass Academy could be an excellent option for you. Compass Academy students can choose to attend either part-time or full-time at Compass, and they still have access to courses, sports, activities, and events at St. Charles East/North as well.
To learn more about Compass, please attend the Open House on December 13th from 6:30-8:00 pm. This brief information video may also provide helpful information.
If you are unable to attend the Open House but would like to attend a tour at Compass, please complete this form and someone from Compass will contact you soon.
Toys for Kids
The Salvation Army is sponsoring its annual Jim Wheeler Toys For Kids program. This program collects and distributes toys for the needy children of the Tri-City area. The program is named in honor of the late Jim Wheeler who was the creator and driver behind this effort.
Please consider purchasing an unwrapped toy for a child and placing it in the toy collection box in our main foyer by Thursday, December 8th. Thank you for your support!
