Engineering Students work with the CASH Preschool to create toys
Students in the Introduction to Engineering course worked with our CASH preschool to complete a multi-week project in human centered design. The engineering students were tasked with utilizing the engineering design process to design, model and 3D print a toy for an individual preschool student based on their preferences. Each preschool student was interviewed by high schoolers in order to assess their interests (lots of spiderman and Barbie!). The engineering students then used the interview information and worked in teams to brainstorm solutions for the toy they would build. The toys were then designed and modeled in Onshape (a 3D computer modeling software). Finally, after many tests and redesigns the final product was printed using 3D printers and assembled in class. On May 8th, a handful of the engineering students presented the toys to the preschool students and the all the students were very excited with the end result.
IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR CASH SENIORS and IMPORTANT SENIOR DATES
IMPORTANT DATES and INFO. FOR SENIORS
A senior class assembly was held last month to discuss expectations for the remainder of the year as well as review the calendar of events. This calendar has been posted to our website as well as available through the link below. The senior assembly presentation is also posted and sent out the same day of the meeting and can also be found below.
Seniors and their families should review these dates and MOST importantly be aware that ALL OBLIGATIONS must be cleared in order to purchase a prom ticket or receive a cap/gown and diploma.
Congratulations to the three senior finalists who were voted by their classmates to advance to the next stage in their pursuit to be the 2024 Commencement Speaker. The following seniors will be presenting to a committee of faculty, staff and students this week: Alexis Fields, Kylie Smith and Jabari Stocker.
Senior Prom 2024!!
May 31 is the Coatesville Area Senior High School Prom, "Dripping In Diamonds"! The Senior Class Cabinet has been preparing all year for this event.
Our school is one of the only schools on the East Coast that still have our prom at the school. The dance is preceded by a parade of the "vehicles" the students choose to arrive in. Some are floats, horses, unique limousines...the only way they cannot arrive is by air or motorcyle. It is a 55 year old tradition here at C.A.S.H. and we look forward to it every year!
Prom Tickets sales are NOW OPEN!! The ticket sale process began last week and any student who completes the process early will receive a special gift (must be done by tomorrow, Tues. May 7th fro the free gift). Posters and information how to purchase tickets are posted throughout the building, on the Announcement Hub on CANVAS, and posted on the senior class social media pages, as well as on our school website and on the next few Monday Messages.
Prom Guests Procedures
Students who bring guests will be required to fill out the permission form (link below) before receiving approval to bring a guest. Students are allowed to bring only one guest. Students will also need the photo identification of the guest at the time of ticket purchase and for admission into the dance. If approved by administration, this contract will be forwarded to the advisor in charge of the dance. Additionally, the guest must be accompanied to the dance by their CASH host. Guest’s behavior will be the responsibility of the host student. Prom guests must be 20 years or younger. Guests under 18 must be in high school and have a valid school identification. ID is required for all guests. NO EXCEPTIONS as this is for the safety and security of the event.
NOTE: The advisors or secretaries will not be responsible for faxing or emailing these forms to or from area schools-you must have a hard copy in hand to purchase a ticket for a guest at the same time your ticket is purchased…NO EXCEPTIONS!
Art Club Updates!
A special thank you to our Campus Art Club for their recent paintings in the CASH library. Students worked on two Red Raider images (an older design from 1968 and a more recent one). The club is currently working on creating a larger mural that depicts some of the local landscape in our community to include Gateway Park, the Steel Industry and the Veterans Admin. Medical Center to name a few. Stay tuned for that image to come soon! Thank you to CASH art teacher Mrs. Presser for getting these projects underway!

Hear them Out: Foster open communication about vaping
Here are some tips to help parents initiate an intervention to optimize their child’s ability to hear them:
- No matter who you are, this will be hard. And that’s okay. Any confrontation of a hidden behavior or addiction will be messy and take time to resolve. Expect your child to be embarrassed, outraged, anxious, fearful, sad, or completely withdrawn.
- Consider widening the circle. The goal is to give your child the best possible chance of hearing your concerns and being open to getting help. Having a third party that genuinely cares about your child in the room could really help, especially if dynamics at home have become tense. Is there any trustworthy person outside the family that your child still respects, trusts, and feels safe with? It could be a coach, a grandparent, a member of clergy, a counselor, or even a family friend.
- Prepare a quiet, safe time and place. Find a place where everyone will feel safe and able to focus. This might require meeting outside the home. whether it is at the school counselor’s office, a church, or even a park that is not busy.
- Tell the story – don’t accuse. Simply share what you have observed. Focus on what was said or done and the impact. Reserve bringing out any discovered paraphernalia for when it comes up in the story. Avoid discussion of motives, accusations, etc. Stick to what was done and how you have observed it affecting each person. Between people sharing, give your child an opportunity to acknowledge what they heard.
- Invite your child to share. Listen to find the struggles and challenges that they are attempting to get vaping to solve. Is it a distraction from anxiety? Is she just lonely, and the only friend(s) she has enjoy vaping? And… how long has it been going on? Has it already become an addiction? Vaping causes its own problems, but it is also attempting to mask, dull, or compensate for something else. Listen to what is going on beneath the vaping. Work together to find new ways to resolve these deeper needs.
- Seek help. Look for help that starts to meet the needs you see. Counselors and therapists are a great place to start. Your child may benefit from mentors, safe places to go before/after school, service activities or team sports.
