News from Winfield Elementary: August 23, 2024
From the Office, Mrs. Alonzo & Mrs. Hall
Thank you for a great start to the school year! It has been a full eight days of making new friends, learning new procedures, and transitioning to the new school year. We appreciate the efforts of everyone (families, teachers, support staff) as we welcomed over 630 students this year, and MANY new to Winfield families! Please don't hesitate to reach out to the office if we can be of support or answer any questions. We are always a phone call or email away!
Walking the halls, supervising lunch, and visiting classrooms, there are a few reoccurring opportunities that we've have noticed. Please check out the suggestions below to help make every day a GREAT day at Winfield Elementary!
- Cafeteria- If your child is purchasing lunch, please review the menu with them each day. We don't enjoy seeing sad faces when they don't like what we are serving (or are expecting something else!). You can find the link to our digital menu in this newsletter. Students are encouraged to take unlimited fruits and vegetables with their meal.
- Water Bottles/Snacks- Each teacher permits students to bring a healthy snack to class. If your student's classroom has allergy concern, you may be asked to not bring certain items (i.e. nuts). Please pack something easy to open and not too messy. We are busy teaching and learning and want snack to be a "working snack" and not take too much time to consume. Please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle daily.
- Label Everything- Believe it or not our Lost & Found is already growing. Please be sure to label ANYTHING your child can remove (sweatshirts, headbands, jackets, etc.) in case they are misplaced. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also label lunchboxes and water bottles.

Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
Thank you for your patience as we have acclimated all of our new Winfield families to our procedures for arrival and dismissal. For reference, you can click on the attached traffic map to see our flow.
Here are a few reminders that help us expedite our processes and ensure student safety:
- Daily transportation changes should be called into the school office prior to 3 pm each day. Please do not rely on sending a ParentSquare message in the event a teacher is absent or simply unable to check messages frequently throughout the day.
- If you do not have a car rider sign for your vehicle, please stop in the office to pick one up. Not having visible names in cars really slows us down.
- Students must be in their classroom ready to learn by 9:05 am. We open doors for car riders at 8:40 am each morning. Students who are not in their classrooms will be marked tardy and miss important first announcements of the day.
- If your child is late to school, you must park your car, walk them into the building, and sign them in. Students are never to be dropped off to the school without school personnel receiving them.
From the Clinic, Nurse Becky
Kindergarten parents: Please submit immunizations if you have not done so already. If you know your child is behind in immunizations, please schedule appointments to have immunizations completed ASAP. If you have a religious or medical exemption, a form will need to be filled out and dropped off in my office. As I am going through records, I will send out information to those parents whose child is behind or due for certain immunizations.
For all students: If your child has had changes/updates to their medical history or any new concerns you want the school to be aware of, and our office has not reached out to you yet, please give the nurse’s office a call. Even if you filled it out on the online registration health forms, please reach out to me directly to ensure I have the most up-to-date information.
