Looking Back on Last Week
Read Across America Week
It was a great week of celebrating the importance of reading!
Students in PreK-1st had a ball this week enjoyed some fun dress up days to celebrate the week. The week was filled with all sorts of hats to crazy socks, wearing their uniforms inside out or backwards, and finishing off the week dressed as their favorite book character.
Older students spent some extra time exploring new book genres and getting in a little extra reading time.
Reading is SO IMPORTANT!!! Learning to read is a critical skill that takes a lot of time and hard work both at school and at home. The kids are doing great! Thank you, parents for all the extra practice you are getting in at home. It makes all the difference!
A Visit from the Cat in the Hat
Students enjoyed a special guest this week when the Cat in the Hat (aka Mrs. Brittany Smith) came by to read a book to the primary students.
Maranatha Baptist University Guest
Mission Partner
On Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Yearwood visited with one of our partnering churches, Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church for a special night of updates from local, regional, and international mission partners. We are so thankful for their support of CCS! They support the mission of our school through a monthly donation.
If your church would be interested in having Mr. Yearwood speak about becoming a mission partner, be sure to let him know by emailing him at heith.yearwood@cullmanchristian.com.
Sonic in Math Class
Even Sonic the Hedgehog does math!
Learning the foundational pieces of mathematics, like reading, is a critical skill in the learning process. Also like reading, this takes lots of time and hard work both at school and at home. Having a good math foundation makes higher learning possible.

Looking Ahead
Youth Leadership Donation Drive
The Cullman County Youth Leadership Program and CCS Representatives, Jack Haynes and Emma Grace Thompson, are asking for donations at this time to further donate to programs in our community.
- Food Drive- Canned goods are accepted
- Clothing Drive- "Like new" clothes and shoes are accepted
- Monetary- $1 bills are accepted (this is because $1 donations to Cullman Caring for Kids can make $5 in food for the needy)
These donations will go towards the Link (canned goods), Curt's Closet (clothes and shoes), and Cullman Caring for Kids ($1 bills)
We will happily accept all donations from Monday, March 10 to Tuesday, March 11. We will pick all donations Tuesday around 6th period.
Donations may be placed in boxes in the school hallway.
As Christians, we are called to spread the good news of the Gospel and help others in our local community and around the world. This is a great way to live out that commission!
Return of the Bookmobile
Please read the letter below from the Cullman County Public Library:
Dear Parents, Teachers and Staff,
Next week is our first day for the bookmobile since 2019 at Christmas. Little did we know it would be this long before we began a route again. We will be coming to Cullman Christian next Tuesday beginning at 9:20 a.m. The teachers will have a schedule.
Please make sure your child's information is in order this week. We cannot check out a book if they don't have a card. I am going ahead and making each child a new, no cost, check out card. Only if you are just "in love" with the card they have now should you let the school know you DO NOT want a new card. Each new card will have two cards....one for the teacher/school and one to come home. With a new card you will have to change ABCMouse and any other digital platforms you have with the children's card numbers.
You may email me at wharbison@cullmanlib.org if you have any questions or concerns. I usually suggest children K and 1 get one book and all the other grades two books. But, you and the teacher may know if your child should have more each week. I will be at the school each Tuesday till sometime in May for our final day this year.
Thanks for all your support and cooperation.

Huddle Leader Opportunity
On Thursday, upper school students learned about a few great opportunities to serve as a Huddle Leader with FCA. Each year FCA hosts a several youth camps around the area. Our students have the opportunity to serve as leaders and grow their faith and relationship with God. Learn more about FCA at https://www.northalabamafca.org/.
Tell Your Friends!
Open enrollment for NEW STUDENTS officially opened on March 1st!
If you have friends who have expressed interest, please encourage them to get started with the online application at https://www.cullmanchristian.org/applications .
Steps to Enrollment:
- School Tour - We recommend that new families schedule a tour to meet with school administrators and learn more about CCS.
- Online Application - All prospective students must complete an application online at https://www.cullmanchristian.org/applications . The fee for this application is $175.
- Student Shadowing - Spending the day in classes is a great way for potential students to see what a day at CCS is like. This is a good way to help a potential student/family see if it's a good fit before making a significant financial commitment.
- Academic Screening - Once an application has been submitted, the prospective student will be scheduled for an academic screener.
- School Records - Records from the current school will be requested. This request will include grades, attendance, discipline, and recommendation.
- Remaining Documents - Any remaining required documents (i.e. birth certificate, immunizations, etc.) must be submitted.
- Admission Decision - When all data has been collected, the CCS Admission Committee reviews each prospective student application. Resulting decision information is sent to the parent.

The CHOOSE Act (Alabama's School Choice Act)
By now you should have heard that Alabama lawmakers passed a new education savings account program, the CHOOSE Act, earlier this year. They have now launched a new website that provides the latest information about the program, including eligibility information.
The family application process for the 2025-2026 school year opened on January 2, 2025 and will close on April 7, 2025.
Funding for eligible students includes up to $7,000 per participating student enrolled in a participating school. CCS is an approved, participating school.
Visit the link below for more information.
Proof of Enrollment for the Alabama CHOOSE Act
If you have applied for the Alabama Choose Act, you will soon be receiving an email from info@factsmgmt.com requesting you to upload proof of enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year. To receive this proof of enrollment, first you need to have re-enrolled your child for next school year and paid the re-enrollment fee.
Once that has been completed, please email Mrs. Smothers at jada.smothers@cullmanchristian.com and she will send you the proof that you will need.
Just to make sure that you read all the way to the bottom.... 😉
