We have just finished our fourth week of summer school and would like to share some wonderful happenings from this week. Our first graders have teamed up with the Girl Scouts to care for the community flower beds in Summit Park. The activities include weeding, planting, watering, and pruning. Additionally, students in grades three through five enjoyed field trips to Lake Katherine.

First Grade
Lake Katherine
Grade 3: What's on the Menu?
The students learned about the food chain and food web. They observed skulls and teeth of different animals.
Grade 4: Who's Whoo?
The students worked with a naturalist to learn about owl adaptations. They dissected owl pellets to study their diet.
Grade 5: Wetland Wonders
The students used dipping nets, to look below the surface of water. They looked under a microscope at macro & micro invertebrates.
We are pleased to welcome your child to the 2024 Summer School program. District 104 is offering a comprehensive half-day/full-day summer program at Walsh Elementary, located at 5640 S. 75th Ave., Summit. This year's theme is "Our Living World."
- All school rules are still in effect in the classroom and on the bus. Students are expected to behave appropriately.
- Please ensure your child is dressed for the summer (shorts, t-shirts, gym shoes).
- Breakfast is provided each morning, and cold lunch each afternoon for all students.
- Students need a charged Chromebook each day. (Monday-Thursday)
- Students are encouraged to bring:
- a clear water bottle
- a healthy snack

Arrival Procedure
AM Session:
- Starts at 8:00 AM.
- Breakfast served daily at 7:50 AM.
- Please send students as close to 7:50 AM as possible to ensure adequate supervision.
- Car Riders and Walkers: Enter through DOOR 6.
PM Session:
- Starts at 11:30 AM.
- Car riders and walkers should report to DOOR 6 by 11:25 AM
Dismissal Procedure
AM ONLY students will be dismissed at 11:00 AM:
- K-7th Grade Dismissal: DOOR 6
- Bus Riders: DOOR 1
PM students will be dismissed at 2:30 PM:
- K-5th Grade Dismissal: DOORS 5 & 6
- 6th-7th Grade Dismissal: DOOR 7
- Bus Riders: DOOR 1
Please arrange for your child to be picked-up promptly at school or bus stop.
