Weekly Newsletter
Hello Families and Guardians,
What an incredible week we've had here at Morris Elementary! The students have quickly settled into their routines, and we were thrilled to welcome our Pre-K students to the Morris family. The beautiful weather has made recess especially enjoyable as students explore and enjoy our brand-new playground.
This week, we also began benchmark assessments for students in kindergarten through fifth grade in both ELA and Math. These assessments provide valuable insights into each child’s learning and help guide our instruction to meet their needs. You can expect to receive your child’s benchmark report towards the end of September.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting opportunities to connect with Morris families:First, on Tuesday evening, we will celebrate the opening of our new playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. This will be followed by our first Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting of the year at 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn about ways to get involved with the Morris community. If you can only attend one meeting this year, this would be the one! We encourage you to join us for both the celebration and the meeting.
Then, on Thursday, September 12th at 6:00 p.m., we will be hosting our annual Morris Elementary Open House. We warmly invite all families to join us for this special event. The evening will begin in the gym, where Mrs. Soules and I will share important information about the upcoming school year, including key initiatives and goals that will support your child’s success.
After the gym session, families will have the chance to visit their child’s classroom. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the teachers, see where your child spends their day, and get a closer look at their daily routines and learning activities. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what your child will be experiencing throughout the year.
We welcome you to bring your child to this event as well! Students love the opportunity to show off their classroom and share their excitement about the school year. We’re looking forward to partnering with you to ensure a successful and fulfilling year for all our students.
Also, our online store is now open, so don’t miss out on ordering your Morris gear. Remember, Fridays are Spirit Days, and both staff and students proudly wear their Morris gear. The store will be open for the next month. Please click here to place your order. The store will remain open for a month.
News from Ms. Beth and Ms. Cherilyn
Greetings your Adjustment Counselors and welcome back to school! We have had an amazing first week back and are looking forward to a great year ahead!
While the beginning of the school year often comes with excitement, there can also be some nervousness, too! That is to be expected!
A few helpful tips to keep in mind:
- Focus on the positive! Ask your child about the best part of their day and share yours.
- Get your morning and after school routine established and try to stay consistent with it. Our students are learning school expectations and it is always helpful for them to also know what to expect at home.
- Unwind, unplug and relax before bed! Maybe that’s reading a book together or another activity that your family enjoys before getting a good night's sleep.
Expect that the beginning of school may not always go smoothly. It takes some time to get adjusted to being back in the classroom; for teachers to get to know their students and for students to get to know each other. Each new school year welcomes the opportunity to meet and make new friends! Allowing your child to broaden their friendship circle can only lead to a more positive school experience!
Wishing our Morris Community a great year ahead,
Beth Persing, LCSW
Cherilyn Zaretsky, LMHC
