Jacob Galvan
The Apple Award for the month of May was awarded to Seguin ISD Director of Child Nutrition, Jacob Galvan, a staff member who has been with us for nearly eight years. While some may say that his work is behind the scenes, he is a respected leader who utilizes his skills to ensure that our students are cared for each day. He and his team are responsible for our students’ wellbeing when it comes to having the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast and lunch five days a week throughout the school year. Even during the summer months, he works tirelessly so that our families can take advantage of meals as part of the Seguin ISD Summer Food Program. His positive attitude is contagious and he is always quick to take on any task with a smile. Seguin ISD is fortunate to have leaders that are as caring and passionate as this Apple Award recipient.
Superintendent’s Student Advisory Team
The Seguin ISD Student Advisory Team, comprised of representatives from 11 campuses, has been making strides in addressing student concerns and shaping the future of the district. The team serves as a vital link between the student body and Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil.
Throughout the year, the student advisors have worked diligently to bring the voices of their peers to the forefront, ensuring that their concerns are heard and considered in the district's decision-making process. The team has also been actively involved in planning for the future of Seguin ISD, contributing ideas and perspectives to help guide the district's direction.
In addition to their advocacy efforts, the Student Advisory Team recently organized the annual Matador Bash, a community event held at Matador Stadium. The event brought together families from across the district for an evening of games and entertainment, capped off with a movie screening under the stars. The Matador Bash provided an opportunity for students, parents, and community members to come together in a fun and welcoming environment.
"The Student Advisory Team has been an incredible asset to our district," said Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil. "Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to representing their fellow students have made a real impact. We are proud of all they have accomplished this year, including putting together a fantastic community event in the Matador Bash."
The success of the Student Advisory Team highlights the importance of student involvement and leadership within the educational system. By empowering students to take an active role in shaping their school experience, Seguin ISD is fostering a culture of engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Seguin ISD Receives National Recognition for Music Education Support for the 6th Consecutive Year
It is no secret that Seguin ISD has a long tradition of excellence when it comes to Fine Arts programming across the board. This is a testament to our talented students, their teachers, sponsors, and administrators, their family members and our Board of Trustees. Seguin ISD Fine Arts Director Mark Telles shared details about the distinguished honor that Seguin ISD has received for the sixth consecutive year.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Seguin ISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
“Music education is a critical component of a student's learning. Music not only expands a student's creativity but emphasizes the value of teamwork, leadership, emotional development, and artistry. For over one hundred years, Seguin ISD has provided music education to its students, supported by its teachers, administrators, and the community,” said Marc Telles, director of fine arts.
