Massena Central School District Free Marketplace
Building off of work that has already been happening with J.W. Leary’s backpack program, food drop off from Mr. Alexander and Mr. Norris, our educators' strategic lessons that connect to the broader community, and the over 360 home visits that have happened this year the JW Leary Leadership and Community Schools are working together with the Food Bank of Central New York to create the Massena Central School District Free Marketplace.
The designation will allow MCS to access new streams of federal, state, and foundation funding to purchase food for families experiencing food insecurity. Additionally, the MCS Free Marketplace will be one of just two operating from within a public school building across our region.
The MCS Free Marketplace will serve families and the community in the Massena Central School district through a combination of appointments and open pantry hours aligned with the Massena Central School District calendar
Families across the district will be encouraged to reach out to their child’s guidance counselor to find out more about the MCS Free Marketplace. Helping to connect families with food, housing, school supplies, warm clothing, and technology so that students can have the opportunity to be as successful in school as possible is important to Massena Central School District and we are excited to launch this new initiative.
Stay tuned for more details!

Attendance
We know it is tough to move from in person to remote learning. We want all children to know how much we look forward to seeing them in person and/or online. Letters to families of all children who we do not see in classes for a certain amount of days in the past two weeks will be mailed home early next week.
If you have questions/comments/concerns please reach out to the school 315-764-3720 or azullo@mcs.k12.ny.us.
Be on the lookout for information about Raider
Raider is a chatbot that uses text messages and a knowledge base to answer your questions about MCSD and help your child succeed. You know how Siri and Alexa can answer lots of your questions? That’s basically how Raider works - except Raider only answers questions about Massena Central School District, not the current weather or nearest coffee shop. Raider sends timely reminders, information, and tips to help promote success in school. And Raider doesn’t speak, only texts.
Student Council
There are offices for students at all grade levels:
- President (8th grade)
- Vice-President (7th grade)
- Secretary (any grade)
- Treasurer (any grade)
All students who run for office and any interested student can become a part of the student council.
The first meeting will be Monday February 1 at 11 AM on Google Meet.
