Dear Colonial Park Families -

We are looking forward to our upcoming Thanksgiving break! We are planning a Sports Spirit Day on Tuesday, November 26! Staff and students are encouraged to represent their favorite sports team, from Stoneham Youth Basketball to the Bruins, who will be playing Tuesday night. Personally, I think I'll be supporting the Celtics!

As a reminder, Wednesday, November 27 is an Early Release Day for all students. Our preschool friends will be dismissed at 11:40, and students in grades K-4 will be dismissed at 12:00pm. There will be no school on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in celebration of Thanksgiving.

Once again, we have a Giving Tree Program for families who need assistance buying gifts this holiday season. If you would like to donate a gift to a family in need, please sign up on the attached spreadsheet. As always, we appreciate the generosity of our Colonial Park community so much.

Giving Tree 2024

Report cards and progress reports will be sent home on Monday, December 2. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, December 4, from 4:00 to 7:00pm, and on Thursday, December 5, from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Sign-ups will be shared by teachers on Monday, November 25, so you are able to select a convenient time for your conference. There will be both a virtual and an in-person option available.

I am incredibly grateful for our Colonial Park community, which includes our students, our staff, and our families. Your support of what we do is so valuable, and we are honored to work with your children each day. I truly look forward to seeing each and every one of them.

*Spirit Wear Update - Spirit Wear orders have been completed and we are awaiting delivery. Once we receive the Spirit Wear we will be in touch for distribution times within the next week. Stay tuned!

*10th annual Socks for Senior Holiday Sock Drive - Running now through December 13th! The Stoneham Council on Aging along with the Stoneham Senior Center is sponsoring the “Socks for Seniors” drive with a goal to provide all seniors in need with a warm pair of socks for the holiday. Although traditional socks are always welcome and appreciated, the funnier, funkier holiday socks and styles are always a fan favorite. You can stop by the Colonial Park lobby to drop off donations.

*Coats for Kids and Families- Running now through December 20th! As the weather is cooling, and you’re pulling coats out of your closet, Colonial Park is once again participating in the Coats for Kids and Families collection. Winter coats, used and new, of any size can be placed in the bin in the school entrance way. Collections are cleaned by Anton’s cleaners and then distributed to those in need. Thank you for your consideration and generosity!

*Winter Concert and PTO Sponsored Brunch 12/10 - Join us for a brief breakfast in the cafeteria following the Winter Concert 12/10 at 10am. The Winter Concert will start at 9am and run through 10am, we encourage everyone to stay for the duration of the concert to support all grade levels. The PTO will have baked goods, coffee, and hot chocolate. It is a great chance to connect with other parents and enjoy a nice treat post-concert.

SEPAC will be hosting a presentation on executive functioning on the next meeting on Monday, November 25. Please see the attached flyer for more details. All are welcome to attend!

On Monday, December 2, your child's Standards-Based Report Card will be sent home. A Standards-Based Report Card provides feedback regarding your child's progress toward Massachusetts State Standards. This report card evaluates all students on the same grade-appropriate skills and describes what students should know and be able to do at the end of each grade level. Many students will be beginning to progress toward the grade level standard, and will receive an Academic Performance Indicator of B, which is completely appropriate for Term 1. The expectation is that students are moving toward Mastery (M) over the course of the school year.
