NO CLASSES THURSDAY
Hello Pointer Families and Staff --
Due to our Girls Volleyball team advancing to the State Tournament in Green Bay, there will be no classes in the Mineral Point Unified School District Thursday, November 7.
This is our school’s first-ever State Volleyball appearance and we want to have everyone be able to attend the game that would like to.
State Semifinal game time for the Pointers will be 11:30 am at the Resch Center in Green Bay on Thursday. Should we win, the State Final would be Saturday, also at 11:30 am. Therefore, classes will be held as normal on Friday.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we embrace this exciting historic milestone in our school community.
Go Pointers!
Unfortunately, our Kindergarten crew was unable to make its annual Halloween trip to the Care Center -- however, our elementary school came together to host the costume parade right here! NOVEMBER 5 OPERATING REFERENDUM
Hello Pointer Education Partners,
A reminder, the Mineral Point Unified School District has an operating referendum question on the ballot tomorrow (Tuesday) November 5. Polls will be open from 7 am - 8 pm.
Local clerks have been asked to contact Superintendent Mitch Wainwright with the results in the evening. If you would like to follow along, he plans to compile the numbers in this spreadsheet as he receives them: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HrwFq6Aios6TUU7cGNgLbJf4vHu3BZ2ilpmgzdZEC8s/edit?usp=sharing
Please note: Results are unofficial until the official canvass is complete on Monday, November 11 at 9 am. Information imported to the spreadsheet is dependent on Superintendent Wainwright receiving it from local clerks. Results may also be available on the county websites:
Iowa: https://www.iowacounty.org/
Lafayette: https://www.lafayettecountywi.org/
More information on the referendum is available here: https://mineralpointschools.org/2024-referendum/
Thank you again for your engagement throughout this process.

RURAL SCHOOL ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to #PointerNation’s Communications Director Joëlle Doye who has been named the Rural School Advocate of the Year by the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance (WiRSA) during the organization’s state conference October 28 in Wisconsin Dells!
The WiRSA Board of Directors established this award to recognize an individual educator, legislator, business/industry leader, or community leader in Wisconsin who has devoted significant time and contributed substantial effort to strengthen and preserve rural schools in Wisconsin.
Earlier this year, Joelle concluded her term as President of the Wisconsin School Public Relations Association (WSPRA), the first time this role had been held by someone from a small, rural school district in the organization’s 57 year history.
Joelle’s WSPRA Presidency provided rural schools a seat at the table and a voice at the state level on many key educational issues.
Nearly 70% of Wisconsin’s 421 school districts are considered “rural.” With so many members of Wisconsin’s next generation learning in rural schools, it’s vital we prioritize the unique needs of these educators and students.
Joelle’s advocacy for rural school storytelling has resulted in many districts adding communication capacity, with WSPRA now over 300 members strong.
“I don’t believe any zip code should determine whether the success stories of schools, students, and staff are shared,” she said. “Rural schools, staffed by caring individuals, are the heart of our small communities and provide incredible opportunities to our young people.”
She is pictured with award presenter Patti Vickman, Wisconsin Association of School Boards Search and Governance Consultant and retired Southern Door County School District Superintendent, who is a member of the WiRSA Board and a past WiRSA Administrator of the Year Award winner.

SOURCES OF STRENGTH COMMUNITY NIGHT
We are excited to host a Sources of Strength Community Night Monday, November 18 at the elementary school from 6-8 pm! Register now as space is limited: https://forms.gle/63fYvm2bNQJAt4yJ8
Sources of Strength trains student leaders, along with caring adults, in a mission to help make a difference and spread hope, help, and strength in our school and community.
The Sources of Strength Community Night is designed to introduce Sources of Strength and hope, help, and strength-based messaging to the greater community. The training will cover the core philosophy behind upstream and strength-based prevention, Social Network Theory, safe messaging strategies, and protective factors.
After this training, community members will have increased skill as Trusted Adults for students (the number one protective factor for preventing suicide and many other risk factors) and create strategies to integrate strength-focused contact into community organizations and businesses in communication with others, and within their own work life balance.
The training will provide an understanding, involvement and common language around strength and resiliency and highlight the implementation and ongoing messaging processes of the local Sources of Strength Peer Leaders. The training will also highlight the services of local organizations, agencies and prevention groups and connect community members to available resources. Through high energy games, conversations, storytelling and experiential learning, community members will be able to internalize Sources of Strength and learn to tap into those strengths throughout their lives, including when supporting others.
Childcare may be available during the community training (more information to be shared at a later date).
If you have questions, please contact Dani Robb, School Social Worker, at dani.robb@mp.k12.wi.us
