North Point Middle School
April 2024 Newsletter
September 2024
Dear North Point Middle School Families,
Our school year is off to a great start. Our students are becoming accustomed to our routines and expectations at NPMS. Students are finding their way around the building and are almost ready to commit to their preferred seating choices in the cafeteria that they will keep for the quarter. As a reminder, if they need to change their seat they can request this change through the student office. Keeping their area clean, following building wide expectations, and responding appropriately to our reminders and redirections will help them continue sitting with their friends.
Hopefully you have found that getting the daily announcements emailed to you the night before I read them to students keeps you informed of all of the ways that your child can be involved in the various activities at NPMS. Near the bottom of this newsletter you will find buttons that contain links to clubs and intramurals that are open to our students throughout the year. Continue to encourage your child to try things that sound interesting to meet other students who share their interests. Most of our activities end at 3:25 PM and students will need rides home by 3:30 PM.
Next week we will be starting after school homework help. This will be held Monday through Thursday (except for the third Thursday of every month which is when we have a Faculty meeting) and lasts until 3:25 PM. Every Tuesday and Thursday, in addition to Mrs. Hilgenbrink who organizes homework help, there will be math tutoring available. Students do not have to sign up in advance for this, they just need to show up in Room 1216 in the 7C hallway and have a ride home at 3:30 PM.
We hope that you plan to join us for Open House. This will be held at NPMS on Thursday, September 5. This is a parent-only event. Sped, PE, and Explo teachers will be available throughout the evening and grade-level teachers will have presentation for you at the following times:
Grade 6. 5:30-6:05 PM
Grade 7. 6:10-6:45 PM
Grade 8. 6:50-7:25 PM
Each team will prepare a short presentation for this evening that can also be shared with parents who are unable to attend. Please remember that this evening is not the time for you to speak privately with your child's teachers about your child, but instead a chance to hear about their overall expectations and classroom procedures.
Now that our school year is underway, I want to remind you to make sure that you are asking your child often about activities that happen in their classes and that you are logging in to FOCUS together to keep a careful watch on grades. This will help you understand the feedback that your child is getting on individual assignments. I also encourage you to pair to your child's Canvas courses. Canvas is the learning management system that is used in all of the District's secondary buildings. Staying connected in this manner will help you understand specific assignments for all classes. You can ask your child to show you these assignments even before they are due. Please follow these directions to pair to your child's courses.
Please take a few minutes to give feedback to NPMS by taking the Measurable Results Survey linked below. This survey will be open until Friday, September 27, 2024. We appreciate your help.
We have enjoyed our first few days with our students and look forward to learning more about them throughout this school year.
It's a great day to be a Grizzly!
As always, let us know what we can do to support you and your child.

Measurable Results Survey
North Point Middle School parents and families, please take some time to complete this important parent survey. The survey will close September 27, 2024.
This survey will be given to our families, students, and staff this month, and again in April. This link is unique to our building, so if you have kids in multiple schools, please check their newsletter to answer questions for that building.
Learn more about this survey and its purpose here.
Den Time
Our students will be assigned to a multigrade level Home Den Time. This 45-minute class will begin on Monday, September 9.
In the beginning, students will meet with their Home Den Time group to participate in some fun team building activities. After a few weeks, students will be able to choose an activity in which they would like to participate. Our goal is for students to meet other students who share the same interests and discover that they are more alike than different.
Activities will rotate throughout the school year but will come back to the Home Den Time grouping when each Choice Den Time session ends. Students will remain with their original Den Time teacher throughout their time at NPMS.
Our hope is that North Point Middle School will be a place where everyone belongs and students become the best version of themselves. We think offering Den Time to our students is a step in the right direction to achieve this goal.
Be sure to ask your child about their Den TIme experience and about what options they found interesting when they take their Choice Den Time survey on September 17.

40 Book Reading Challenge
We're excited to announce the launch of our 40 Book Reading Challenge at North Point Middle School! To encourage and reward our students for their reading achievements, we're planning many rewards with the first to be snacks because kids work for food!
To make this celebration a success, we're kindly requesting your support in providing snacks for the participating readers. We're hoping to offer a variety of options, including Gatorade, Prime Drinks, Skittles, full-size candy bars, Taki Chips, granola bars, snack size chip bags, and any other snack middle school kids devour.
If you're able to donate any of these snacks, please send them in with your child to school labeled Reading Challenge to be dropped in the office. We appreciate your generosity in helping us create a memorable and rewarding experience for our students.
We are also looking to partner with any local businesses to support our Reading challenge if you have any local connections and would like to help us in this endeavor; Please contact Stacey Couch at staceycouch@wsdr4.org or Monica Beussink at monicabeussink@wsdr4.org .
Thank you for your support with our 40 Book Reading Challenge!

Chromebook Insurance
All families have the option to purchase Chromebook insurance annually for each child in grade 6-12.
You have the option to purchase this online with RevTrak/Vanco, our Online Payment website. This is a feature for families to pay online rather than sending in money for the optional insurance fee ($20). This is for grades 6-12.
To access the WSD Online Store, families will need to visit wsdr4.revtrak.net and select their level, school, student, and Technology.
You also have the option of bringing in cash or a check to the main office.

- Medication drop-off must be done by appointment only. Please contact the nurse directly. Her information is provided below.
- Parents are required to bring medication to school in properly labeled prescription bottles.
