YALE 5-12th Bridging Home & School
Volume 1 #3 March 16th, 2024
From the Desk of your School Leader...
Greetings Wonderful MAS Parents,
Just as adults experience moments of overwhelming thoughts and sensations, children too can find themselves caught up in stress. However, teaching kids mindfulness can provide them with tools to calm themselves by focusing on the present moment, their body, breath, and surroundings. Mindfulness aids in centering and soothing a restless mind, empowering children to better manage their reactions to stress over time. It serves as a vital component of resilience.
Here are some mindfulness and relaxation exercises to try with your children:
1. The "54321" Technique: This exercise encourages children to be fully present in their bodies and environment. Guide your child to identify or describe:
- 5 objects they can see right now.
- 4 objects they can feel or touch right now.
- 3 things they can hear right now.
- 2 things they can smell right now.
- 1 thing they can taste right now.
2. "Flower and Bubbles": Encourage your child to envision holding a flower in one hand and a bubble wand in the other (actual bubbles or a pinwheel can be used as well).
- Smell the flower: Inhale slowly and deeply through the nose.
- Blow bubbles: Exhale slowly through the mouth.
- Repeat this process three to five times.
These exercises provide valuable tools for helping children cultivate mindfulness and manage stress effectively.
Thank you for partnering with us in our children's educational journey; together, we build brighter futures.

Why Does Attendance Matter Even on the Last Day of School?
· Attendance is crucial for maximizing learning opportunities, even on the last day of school. Every day counts toward academic progress and achievement.
· Attending school until the last day helps students maintain momentum and stay engaged in their studies, ensuring they finish the school year strong.
· Missing even a single day of school can result in missed instruction, valuable discussions, and important review sessions that could impact academic performance.
· Attending school until the last day fosters a sense of responsibility and commitment to education, setting a positive example for future endeavors.
· Students who attend school consistently demonstrate higher levels of academic achievement, as they have had the opportunity to benefit from continuous learning experiences throughout the entire school year.
· The last day of school often includes important wrap-up activities, such as final assessments, reflection exercises, and farewells, which contribute to a sense of closure and completion for the academic year.
· Regular attendance until the last day of school ensures that students are fully prepared for any end-of-year assessments, projects, or presentations, allowing them to showcase their learning and progress effectively.
Let's work together to prioritize attendance and ensure that every day counts in your child's education journey!

5th Grade Science students were tasked with creating solutions to reduce the impact of an earthquake. During this project they researched information on how structure are formed to reduce the impact of an earthquake. Equipped with their research and limited resources (20 straws & 3 feet of tape) they worked diligently to their creating structures.
