TRAFFIC & CARLINE UPDATES
- Our new carline and traffic patterns are flowing as expected, and we thank you for your patience.
- Students arriving by car MUST be unloaded from the driver's side so that they exit onto our sidewalk.
- Please do NOT exit the carline to pass other cars; this presents a safety hazard.
- If you are parking to come to the front office, please do NOT walk through the cars in line. Please walk to the sidewalk entrance and cross there.
- Please place your car number on your dashboard during afternoon dismissal. If you need a card please contact Kisha Jackson.
- There is NO left turn during our morning drop off OR afternoon dismissal. All vehicles MUST turn right onto East Sixth St.
ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year.
ASSAULT AND THREATS OF VIOLENCE - NOTIFICATION
IS IT BULLYING?
Bullying is mean or cruel treatment on purpose over and over again to the same person. These acts of being mean have to have occurred 2 or more times with the same person in order to be considered bullying. If it has happened once then it is considered teasing.
Bullying can be physical, verbal, or emotional.
Bullying consists of, but is not limited to: name-calling, violence, theft, rumors, exclusion, threats, intimidation, put-downs and pranks.
Students should all be treated with courtesy and equality regardless of age, gender, race, religion, orientation, size, disability, intelligence, athletic ability or popularity.
*If you are unsure if your scholar has experienced bullying, please refer to the guidelines above and/or by following this link or click on the button below.
REPEATS
CEP & Free/Reduced Application
Dear GWC Families,
While this school’s meals will be provided at no charge for the 2024-25 school year (through the National School Lunch Program’s CEP-Community Eligibility Provision), it is still important that families who would qualify for (Free/Reduced) meal assistance, to fill out an application every school year. This is a great support to our families but also provides funding and resources for the school.
- Income guidelines are below that may help determine if you should complete the application.
- If your child recently received an approval of direct certification (DC) benefits letter for this school year, you do not need to fill out the form.
- Only one form per family needed, and it only takes a few minutes.
For the 2024-25 school year, complete this form online beginning August 1st @ http://bit.ly/FCPSEBF or (scan QR Code).
If you need any help filling out the form on-line, please contact Jessica Morgison, FRAM Coordinator for FCPS Child Nutrition at 859-422-2152.
Thank you for your help!

Items MUST be dropped off in the front office.
The treat must be served after lunch in the last 10 minutes of the day.
No ice cream, pizza, chips, etc. allowed
Treats MUST be PEANUT-FREE
In relation to invitations, every child in the classroom should receive an invite if they are brought to school; however, the teacher is NOT responsible for party invitations or their distribution.
*No group photos, including other scholars, can be taken while visiting the school for lunch and/or other celebrations or events.
COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS
In an effort to effectively communicate, we wanted to share with you the various platforms we use at GWC and what you can expect:
- We will be using Class Dojo to support our Positive Behavior Interventions & Support System (PBIS). Classroom teachers have provided information for joining their individual classes. Dojo is also the primary method, with teachers, between class and home. Therefore, please make sure you join!
- Classroom newsletters will be sent weekly on Monday! Please make sure you read those in order to stay up-to-date!
- A school newsletter will be sent via email, text, and posted on the school story in class dojo. It is important that all of your info is correct in IC so that you are receiving communication pieces.

24-25 PICK UP LIST
Please complete this FORM at your earliest convenience (if you didn’t submit in June). A form is due each year, per scholar. If you completed this in June, NO action is needed. This list identifies individuals who can pick up your scholar(s) from school.
Important Reminders:
IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS, ANY INDIVIDUAL THAT IS NOT ON THE PICKUP LIST WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PICK UP A SCHOLAR.
The individuals on your pickup list will be asked to show photo identification.
If someone who is NOT on this list will be picking your child up from school, it will be necessary for you to notify the office in writing, by 8 a.m., to kisha.jackson@fayette.kyschools.us.; otherwise, we can NOT release the scholar to that individual.
Teachers can NOT accept any changes related to pickup lists; those requests MUST go through our front office staff.
Please notify the office in writing of any changes to this list as soon as they occur.
*The emergency list is different from the pick-up list. A person on the emergency list is NOT authorized to pick up your scholar. Emergency cards will be filled out at Open House.
CAR LINE UPDATES
We have some great news to share with you. This summer, our campus received a newly poured carline and sidewalk on Keller Alley. This will allow our scholars to enter/exit their cars right onto the sidewalk. In addition, Keller Alley is now a one-way street; therefore, you MUST enter Keller from Alabama and proceed toward East Sixth, including those who wish to park during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
Important Reminders for Morning Carline:
- Our doors open at 7:15 a.m. at which time students may enter through our front entrance doors.
- NO students should ever be dropped off before school staff is outside for duty.
- Follow Keller, which is now one-way, to our newly poured carline and pull all the way up following staff directions.
- Scholars MUST exit their cars from the driver's side. This puts them right on our newly poured sidewalk.
- Students should NEVER be dropped off on East Sixth St. This is a safety hazard for both the scholar and other drivers, including our neighbors.
- Do NOT pass cars and follow directions of staff at all times to ensure the safety of our scholars.
- Cars exiting from Keller MUST turn right onto East Sixth Street during arrival and dismissal times.
Reminders for Afternoon Carline:
- Dismissal begins at 2:35 p.m.
- Display your car tag on your dash; this allows us to collect numbers ensuring safety and a smooth transition. If you need an additional tag, please contact Kisha Jackson at kisha.jackson@fayette.kyschools.us
- Follow Keller, which is now one-way, to our newly poured carline and pull all the way up following staff directions.
- Scholars will be loaded into the back seat on the driver's side of the car. This allows scholars to load from our sidewalk to ensure their safety and our staff.
- Do NOT pass cars and follow the directions of staff at all times to ensure the safety of our scholars.
- Cars exiting from Keller MUST turn right onto East Sixth Street during arrival and dismissal times.
- Do NOT park on East Sixth St. Car riders are ONLY loaded from Keller Alley.
