A note from the Superintendent;
I am writing to share my excitement and joy about attending the recent Graduation Sensation event and to express my anticipation for the upcoming high school graduations for Klamath Union High School and Klamath Learning Center.
The Graduation Sensation, held on May 30th, was an extraordinary celebration hosted by The Klamath Promise. The event was a vibrant acknowledgment of the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our graduating students. The atmosphere was electric with pride and enthusiasm as families, friends, and educators gathered to honor the graduates. The sense of community was inspiring. It was a perfect blend of reflection on the past years for our Seniors and excitement for the future for our kindergarteners, making it a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
As we look forward, I am anticipating the Klamath Learning Center graduation ceremony on June 8th at 11:00 AM in the Gym at the Lucille OāNeil Education Center. This event promises to be a heartfelt and intimate gathering, providing an opportunity for students, their families, and educators to come together and celebrate the unique and diverse paths that have led each student to this pivotal moment.
Additionally, I am looking forward to Klamath Union High School's commencement ceremony which is scheduled for June 9th at noon and will be held at Modoc Field. The stadium is a fitting location for such a significant milestone, offering a beautiful setting for graduates to receive their diplomas. I am certain that this event will be filled with moments of pride and joy as students celebrate the culmination of their high school journey.
Both of these graduations mark not only the end of a chapter but also the beginning of new adventures and opportunities for our students. The achievements of these young individuals are a testament to their perseverance and hard work, and these ceremonies will undoubtedly be a celebration of their success and potential.
I am honored to be a part of this community and to witness such inspiring events. The dedication of The Klamath Promise, along with the support of families and educators, has truly made a significant impact on our students' lives. I look forward to celebrating these milestones with our graduates and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Keith A. Brown

The 9th annual Klamath Promise Graduation Sensation took place in downtown Klamath Falls on Thursday, May 30th. Hundreds of spectators cheered on the nearly 1500 students. The parade included bands, mascots, almost 700 Class of 2024 graduating high school seniors in caps and gowns and nearly 800 Kindergartners from across all of Klamath County. Kindergarteners donned Class of 2036 t-shirts in their school colors donated by Klamath Community College. The parade was livestreamed by My Basin.
Immediately following the parade, the high school graduates joined together with family, friends and supporters in Veterans Park for a Party in the Park celebration and awards distribution. Cyrus Hamilton, a graduating senior from Mazama sang the National Anthem. Jessie Hecocta provided keynote remarks. The Graduation Sensation Party in the Park includes the awarding of gift cards for those going on to college, into the military, into the workforce, or who are undecided on their next step, as well as scholarships for those going to college. A total of 130 scholarships and gift cards worth $45,500 were announced to the crowd of graduates, families, and supporters. The verified list of winners will be shared in the next few days. KFCS Class of 2024 Graduation Walkthrough
A long-standing tradition was carried through as Klamath Union Class of 2024 graduates walked through their old elementary schools at Pelican, Conger, Roosevelt, Mills and Ponderosa Middle School, seeing former teachers, family and familiar faces from years ago.
EagleRidge High School Principal Announced
By Joaquin Aguilar-Flores, KFCS media relations specialist
The Klamath Falls City Schools Board of Education approved the hiring of the next principal at EagleRidge High School, starting the 2024-2025 school year. Terry Bennett will be the next EagleRidge High School Principal.
Bennett, from La Grande, will bring decades of educational and administrative experience to EagleRidge. The new EHS principal is no stranger to the Klamath Basin, however, after he moved to Klamath Falls in 2004, in part to be closer to his father who lived in Grants Pass.
To many, Bennett will be a familiar face in the community after he was assistant principal (2004-2006) and later school principal (2006-2013) at Mazama High School when it was part of KFCS.
Bennett took the footsteps of his father, a professor and Dean of Professional Studies at Eastern Oregon University prior to being the President of Rogue Community College from 1986 to 1999. His father came out of retirement to serve as the Interim-President at Umpqua Community College from 2002-2004.
āI followed in my fatherās path and made education my career,ā Bennett said. āI moved to Klamath Falls in 2004 to be closer to my father, who passed away in 2012.ā
Bennett started his career in 1988, teaching and coaching in Huntington, Ore. along the Snake River, and finished his teaching career at Corvallis High School in 2000.
After being a teacher, Bennett worked at the state level as an Educational Specialist II at the Oregon Department of Education. In working at ODE, it allowed him to implement Measure 98/High School Success.
He served from 2019-2023 as an At-Large-Member of the Fair Dismissal Appeals Board.
Currently, as principal at Anderson New Technology High School in Anderson, Calif., Bennett helped transformed his schoolās instructional model with the goal of growing the schoolās enrollment. A year before his current position in Anderson, he was Superintendent of Schools at North Douglas School District.
āWithin six months, we innovated a non-classroom-based, hybrid, collegiate model with a 'homeschool' independent study program. We witnessed a remarkable 25 percent growth in our enrollment in just two years,ā Bennett said. āMy focus at ODE was to enhance graduation rates through the implementation of Career and Technical Education and the removal of barriers to student participation, a mission that I am proud to have accomplished.ā
In previous work, as the principal of Durham High School, Bennett developed two CTE pathways in Manufacturing Technologies and Vitculture, and added dual credit through a partnership with Southern Oregon University.
āCollaborating with other secondary administrators and Klamath Community College to develop the Advanced Diploma program, which some have said was a precursor to the Oregon Promise,ā Bennett said. āWorking with the staff at Mazama to improve student outcomes led to the school receiving an āoutstandingā rating on its 2010 state report card.ā
Bennett attended Oregon State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education. He then earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Oregon and completed his Continuing Administrator license through Portland State University.
