I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each family that entrusted their child’s high school journey with Freedom this year. I hope you experienced the improvement in their passion for learning, self-esteem growth due to their successes, their developing a school spirit around kindness, respect, hard work, and patriotism, their mature focus on careers, and an appreciation for a school providing a safe and supportive environment to pursue their personal excellence. Our vision of economic freedom with the critical thinking tools necessary to make that happen is proving to be a reality for our students, and we have only just begun. May will bring finishing our classes, mastery finals (and hopefully cash for many who prove content mastery on these assessments), our first graduation, and lots of inaugural school spirit events. I cannot wait to see what these amazing young people do next.

As we step into the final month of our inaugural year at The Freedom Institute of Collier County, we can't help but feel a wave of excitement and gratitude for the journey we've embarked upon together. It's been a year filled with growth, learning, and countless memorable moments, and we're thrilled to have shared it with all of our stakeholders. As we reflect on the milestones achieved and the challenges overcome, we want to take a moment to give a special shout-out to all of our dual enrollment students who have just completed their classes. Your dedication to pursuing higher education while still in high school is truly commendable, and we're incredibly proud of your hard work and accomplishments. Thank you for being an integral part of our school community and for embodying the spirit of excellence that defines The Freedom Institute. Here's to a fantastic final month and to many more milestones ahead!

As always, I am proud to work with such a great group of high schoolers every day!

For ELA, we wrapped up our unit on rhetorical appeal: ethos, logos, and pathos. Students presented final projects! We also wrote scholarship essays and gave peer reviews to support and improve one another's writing skills. Last but not least, we explored the digital world of Chat GPT and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students learned about the responsible and irresponsible uses of Chat GPT in school, debated about the topic, and walked away with new perspectives on this ever-changing technology in today's society.

For Consumerism, we officially wrapped up all of Dave Ramsey's 13 chapters from the Foundations in Personal Finance (Homeschool 9-12) curriculum. These final chapters included housing and real estate, investment and retirement, and global economics. For the remainder of the year, we will dive into the bonus Ramsey course, "Borrowed Future" about the student loan crisis in America. We will also research the current legislation associated with student loans and embrace more debates and critical thinking!

For Career, the amazing Senator Garrett Richter was our guest speaker for the month of April. He was so kind, knowledgeable, and most of all, funny! He made us smile and laugh, while relaying valuable life lessons. We really enjoyed his visit. We continued to participate in internships and research career paths.

In Algebra, students have wrapped up slope and graphing using various equations. We have begun working on radical, and exponents. Moving into May we will begin polynomials, binomials, and monomials.

For Geometry, we will be wrapping up properties of triangles and quadrilaterals. It has been many units of breaking down all the components of solving for unknowns within these shapes. Next week we will begin working with circles. No more straight lines, we are circling our way towards the end of the year.

For US Government, this past month we have been diving into the Civil Rights movement. Students have participated in research and discussions about the events, laws and historical figures that impacted the Civil Rights movement.

The Freedom Institute was so honored to have Governor Ron DeSantis visit us and speak to our students, families, and community members about the importance of parental choice for education. His visit was exciting, and we are thankful he took the time out of his busy schedule to visit and support us.

Our senior, Sofie, is University of South Florida bound! We are SO proud of her! GO BULLS!
