QT3: Week 7, March 17-21
Welcome Back PK-8 Coyotes!
We hope you had a fantastic Spring Break with friends and family! We're excited to welcome our students back on Thursday, March 20. We have some exciting events lined up this week—keep reading for more details.
Donations Needed: Student Easter Egg Hunt - Thursday, April 10
We’re excited to host our annual Easter Egg Hunt for all PK-4th grade students this year! We are kindly requesting donations of plastic eggs and candy to fill them. If you're able to contribute, please send your donations to your child's teacher by April 4.
STAAR Testing for all 3rd-8th Grade Students
STAAR testing is approaching in just a few weeks, and our students and teachers have been putting in great effort to ensure everyone makes progress. Please be sure to note the upcoming STAAR test dates. It is important for all students to be present on campus for daily instruction.
On STAAR testing days, we kindly ask that you refrain from scheduling appointments or events to ensure all our Coyotes are here and fully prepared to do their best. Tornillo PK-8 will be a closed campus on these days, and early student pick-ups will not be permitted for students who are still testing.
Presenting Identification at the Front Office
To ensure the safety of all our students and staff, we kindly remind you that identification will be required for any person conducting business at the front office. This includes, but is not limited to, parent meetings, early student check-out, and participation in school-wide events during school hours.
Student Attendance - Student Absences, Tardies, and Early Pick-Up
As you know, every day of instruction is vital to your child’s academic success, and missing school, even for short periods, can have a significant impact on their learning.
We understand that there may be times when your child needs to be absent, but we ask for your support in ensuring they attend school everyday. The more consistent their attendance, the more your child learns & grows.
Texas law also requires student to be in attendance 90% of the time regardless if the absence is excused or unexcused. Students who are below 90% attendance will be required to make up time. A formal meeting will be set up between the attendance administrator, parent, and student to set up an Attendance Plan.
When a student has 10 unexcused absences, our campus will begin the process for truancy court as required by Texas law.
