VALENTINE'S DAY INFORMATION
Students may participate in our Valentine's Day exchange on Wednesday, February 14th. We are asking that all students sign their Valentine’s Cards (please no candy, food, or goodie bags) at home and bring them to school. When your child signs the cards, please do not fill in the To: section unless it just says To: friend. Just fill out the From: section. Watch for an email from your child's teacher with this information and the total number of students in her class.
We appreciate your help and support. If you have any questions, please let us know.
1st GRADE MUSICAL - 2/29
The 1st Grade Musical, "Pajama Party", will be held on Thursday, February 29th, at 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. Due to limited seating, we encourage all families to attend the evening performance. An open house for parents will be held immediately following the evening performance. We look forward to seeing you then!
SPRING FEST 4/5 - SAVE THE DATE!
Save the date for our annual spring fundraiser, Spring Fest - "Splash to the Past"! This event is for the whole family and will take place on Friday, April 5th, from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. DAVID'S DREAM RUN - 5/4!
DAVID’S DREAM RUN - Save the date! The 30th Annual David’s Dream Run will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at Woodforest Bank Stadium. UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS
FIRST GRADE FIELD TRIP - 2/9
The first-grade field trip to Little Beakers will be held on Friday, February 9th. Sign-ups for the chaperone lottery have closed.
SECOND GRADE FIELD TRIP - 3/7
The second grade field trip to College Park High School to see "Sideways Stories from Wayside School" will be held on Thursday, March 7th. Due to the limited space in the auditorium, only teachers and one room parent per class will chaperone.
THIRD GRADE FIELD TRIP - 3/8
The third Grade Field Trip to W.G. Jones State Forest will be held on Friday, March 8th. Sign-ups for the chaperone lottery will begin on Tuesday, February 20th, and will end on Monday, February 26th. We will have two chaperones per class along with the room parent. Because we have an obligation to chaperone the students in the class, it will not be possible to include siblings. You may sign up in person, call or email the front office at 281-298-4700, sduerr@conroeisd.net. Please do not email the teacher or room mom to sign up.
FIELD TRIP GUIDELINES
Several grade-level field trips are coming up, so we are asking parents to carefully review our field trip guidelines:
- Limited chaperone opportunities are available for some field trips. If chaperones are needed for your child’s field trip, it will be posted in the newsletter. Due to space limitations, not every field trip will require chaperones.
- Chaperones (when needed), will be determined by a lottery system for each class, with sign-ups through the front office. Notices of dates and times of sign-ups will be posted in the newsletter. Two to three weeks prior to the field trip, the chaperone sign-up list will be posted in the front office. This list will remain open for one week only. You may sign up (one guardian) in person, by calling the front office at 281-298-4700 or you may sign up by e-mailing the front office: sduerr@conroeisd.net. Please do not e-mail the teacher or room mom to sign up.
- All chaperones must complete the CISD Volunteer Application on the website at https://www.conroeisd.net/parents/get-involved/ (No Exceptions - Must be done every year). Approval can take up to two weeks, so the application must be completed in advance.
- Chaperones must ride the bus unless school has approved otherwise.
- Unfortunately, siblings are not allowed to attend field trips.
- Parents who are not chaperones are asked not to attend the field trip on their own. We ask that you please respect this.
- One room parent per class will be included as a chaperone. Any co-room parent can be included in the lottery.
NEWS FROM THE NURSE
We used to call this 'flu season', but there are a few new players on the scene these days—RSV, COVID, and strep are all making a strong showing in our community, affecting students and their parents and staff and their families. Keeping the spread of illness under control is a shared responsibility.
A good rule of thumb for this time of year is to err on the side of caution if you believe your child is ‘not themselves’, especially if other family members have been ill. Please keep sick kids at home and let them remain at home until fully recovered . Please use our COVID-19 Positive Self-Report – Conroe ISD for additional guidance as needed.
For more information, check out this information from CISD Health Services: Emergencies & Illness at School – Conroe ISD . Thank you for working together with us to keep our David Family healthy!
CONROE ISD YOUNIVERSITY - 3/2
Conroe ISD will be hosting YOUniversity on Saturday, March 2nd, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at The Jett Center. This is an event for the entire family and community. Students of all ages are welcome. There will be family engagement presentations, food stands, soccer games, and free community resources.
CELL PHONE TIP
Turning devices off 30 minutes before bed helps the natural melatonin production begin. Blue Light stops melatonin production.

RAINY DAY DISMISSAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What is rainy day dismissal?
Rainy day dismissal is called when we’ve determined the weather in the area is not safe to release bikers and walkers. This may include, but is not limited to, heavy rain, lightning, thunder, and/or heavy winds. A decision will be made by 3:05 pm and communicated to parents via text.
- Why do we wait so long to call rainy day dismissal?
Unfortunately, severe weather in our area changes extremely quickly. When a rainy day dismissal is called too early, the bad weather frequently moves out of the area by dismissal time.
- Should I call the school when there is a rainy day dismissal?
No. If you are unsure of your rainy day dismissal plan, please reach out to your teacher now to confirm. Your student’s transportation will automatically default to your prearranged “rainy day dismissal” choice. As long as your teacher knows your student’s rainy day dismissal plan, there is no need to contact the front office.
- If I’m a biker/walker parent, can I walk up to the school?
Please utilize the carline if possible. In the event that we call a rainy day dismissal after you have already walked to the school from a nearby neighborhood, you will be able to pick up your child at the side exits.
- Will I need my car rider sign for K-4?
Yes. ALL parents will need their car rider sign during rainy day dismissals, including 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade parents.
- If I’m a car rider parent, can I walk up to the school?
No. For everyone’s safety, car rider parents are asked to please stay in their vehicles.
- Should I go to the front office to get my child?
No. On rainy dismissal days, please only come to the front office in emergency situations.
- Will rainy day dismissal take longer than normal?
Yes. We ask for your patience as we safely dismiss all students.
