How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
If you could live for hundreds of years and not show your age, would you want to? Tom Hazard was born with that condition. He may look like he is forty years old, but he is actually over four hundred years old. He isn't susceptible to illnesses or diseases. Life should be wonderful, right? Wrong! Because he ages so slowly, people around him grow suspicious of him. How can someone they have known for years still look the same? His mother is accused of being a witch and is tried. He is spit on and suspected of magic. Even in the "modern" ages, he cannot stay long in one place. He is brought into the "Albatross Society" where he meets others like himself. He is sent on tasks around the world to find and recruit other "Albas". In return he is moved every few years to a new location. He cannot become close to anyone because it will be dangerous for them. But Tom falls in love with Rose. And then must leave her and their daughter to protect them. This decision haunts Tom over the centuries. This book was fascinating to me. There were passages in the story which made me stop and think. I have enjoyed every book I have read by this author. Have you tried his works?
