Marcum Matters
July 23rd, 2023
October 2024
No School on November 1st, but there is Camp Marcum!
Intervention
Each grade span (K-2, 3-5, and 6-8) has a scheduled daily intervention time. Our school-wide focus for intervention this year is math, but other student needs may be addressed during this time as well. At the beginning of each 4-5 week intervention cycle, students will take a pre-assessment for specific math standards. Based on these pre-assessments and classroom data, teachers will group students based on their identified needs. Each student is sent home with an “Intervention Placement Communication” form at the start of each intervention cycle so that families know what skills their student will be focusing on during this intervention time – so be on the lookout! If you have questions related to intervention, please contact your child’s classroom teacher for more information.
Student Council
Student Leadership is very important at Marcum. We want the students to be able to be a part of making decisions about things we do here at school and we also want them to be able to experience the different facets of leadership. Our 2024-2025 Student Council is already off to a great start planning and leading school events! They prepared and shared activities for Constitution Day and are currently preparing for Red Ribbon Week activities at the end of October!

House Leaders
Our House Leaders are an important piece of our school culture! These students work hard to support our House System. They create and lead fun challenges for our Wildcats that encourage team work, require problem solving, foster a sense of belonging and so much more. The House Leaders are 8th graders who were elected by staff members of their associated House.

Costume Parade
On October 31st, the students are allowed to wear their costumes to school if they choose to do so. (No weapons; Dress code applies.) We will have a costume parade in the morning where all students will have the opportunity to participate. There will be prizes available for students with the best costumes in each grade span.
Labor Day Parade
The 2024 Labor Day Parade was a great day! The weather was beautiful and it was awesome to see all of the floats, check out local vendors, interact with community members, and support the schools of South Sutter county. The ”Wildcat Ranch” (aka Marcum’s TK/Kindergarten Float) was definitely a highlight!! Thank you to our incredible Wildcat parents who put this awesome float together!! In addition, the Marcum Parents' Club Hamburger Booth had a very successful day with no lag in customers all day!! Thank you to all of our volunteers and everyone who donated items. We're already looking forward to next year's Labor Day Parade!
Teacher Collaboration Update
During Monday early release time in the month of October, teachers will be looking at pre-assessment data to place students in groups for our second intervention cycle, participate in a Choose Love workshop on Courage and Gratitude, receive professional development to further skills with the English 3D and Edmentum Exact Path programs, and continue the development of grade level signature writing experiences.
California Junior Scholarship Federation
Congratulations to the following students for being accepted as members of Marcum’s California Junior Scholarship Federation based on grades from Trimester 3 of the 23-24 school year! We look forward to having both 7th and 8th graders apply in November for membership based on 24-25 Trimester 1 report cards.

Shirts
New shirts went home with all Wildcats last week. At Marcum, we wear our Blue and Gold Marcum Shirt on Thursdays and our House Shirt on Fridays. We love seeing our Wildcats in their school shirts!
Marcum Parents' Club Update
Parents' Club would like to thank each one of you for your continued support. Labor Day is our biggest fundraiser of the year and because of you and your generosity it was a huge success. Our school made around $9,500 that will be used to enrich our Wildcats' learning experiences.
Our 3rd annual costume drive is October 1st. We would love to see as many Wildcats and their families choose a costume at no cost (toddler through adult costumes available) as possible.
Cookie order sheets were sent home last week and run through Friday, October 11th. Orders will arrive before Thanksgiving. Not interested in selling cookie dough? No problem! Please consider signing up for the un-fundraiser.
We are hosting a free movie night and will be showing Hotel Transylvania on October 18th.
Marcum Parents' Club Spirit Wear Store
Marcum Parents' Club has opened up an online spirit wear store that will be available for families to order spirit wear all year long! There are a bunch of different styles and designs you can choose from to show off your Marcum spirit! Be sure to check the online store out. They also have a different special promotion weekly, so check often!
Can & Bottle Drive to Support Student NYC/DC Trip
