Social Emotional Learning Screening Caregiver Notification
Saint Paul Public Schools believes every student’s physical and mental well-being are integral to their education. Social and emotional learning (SEL) skills are critical components of student well-being.
To better support students’ personal growth and include their perspectives in decision-making, our school is using an SEL screening tool called mySAEBRS (Social, Academic, Emotional, Behaviors Risk Screener). mySAEBRS is a self-report for grades 2 and up. This will be given to students during advisory class in the next few days. Students can complete this in Spanish or English and will be able to complete it in one period of advisory.
mySAEBRS produces three broad scores, including academic behavior, emotional behavior, and social behavior. Individual students’ screener data will only be accessible to teachers, administrators, and select staff. Results will be maintained in secure files and databases accessible only to these individuals. Staff review this data alongside other information and in consultation with families to plan interventions for students with identified needs.
Caregivers may request an individualized report regarding their student’s screener results following each assessment window. School staff are available to discuss results with families.
You can opt-out your student from participating in mySAEBRS by completing the form below. The opt-out applies to the current school year and must be completed annually. You may also complete this link if you do not have access to a printer.
Please contact Elias Oguz, High School Principal (651-293-8830) if you have any questions or concerns.

The school social work department works to support students with overcoming challenges while promoting social/emotional learning to be implemented in the real world. Areas that are frequently focused on are learning coping skills to work through life stressors, assisting with relationship conflicts, and supporting academic social/emotional success. Social workers strive to empower students by tapping into their self-determination and encouraging each scholar to focus on their own future goals. The social work department also assists students and families with resources that connect them to daily living needs. This can include food, clothing, and county resources. At Washington Technology Magnet, social workers work together with other staff members to provide students with clothing and hygiene items they may need. Students are able to request access to these items by expressing their need to any staff member at school or connecting directly with a social worker. Caregivers are also welcome to connect with a social worker if items are needed for their family.
