November 2024
November News
We have finished our first quarter of classes for the 2024-2025 School Year. We encourage students to continue showing up for their classes and putting in their best efforts until the end of the semester in January when grades are final for Semester 1.
For those students that struggled during Quarter 1, it's not too late to turn things around. Make it your goal to attend class and reach out to your teacher, your LC and others for support. One step at a time!
Senior Meetings
School Counselors are still conducting Senior Meetings and providing an academic summary for each Senior, so students and LC's know where they stand with graduation. It's super important to be checking email as there is important information being sent throughout the school year and upcoming events.
We have finished Quarter 1 on November 1st. Grades are not final until the end of the semester in January so there is still time to improve grades and work hard to complete credits.
Important Course Drop Deadline
November 29th- Students who drop a course at this time will be dropping with an "F" which will be reflected on a student's transcript. We encourage those students struggling in a class to work with their teacher to bring their grade to passing. There is still plenty of time left in the semester to increase a student's grades. All semester grades are not final until the end of the semester mid-January.
Semester 2 Schedules
Please Double Check your Semester 2 Schedule as we have found computer errors in the past. This helps counselors and yourself to make sure you have the courses you need for graduation. Invest in your future because that High School Diploma is so important no matter what career path you take.
All students should have a minimum of 5 classes on their schedule. WIVA requires 20 credits for graduation with "4 in the core" meaning 4 years of a Core Class in a Science, English, Math and Social Studies. If these core classes are not on your schedule or you have less than 5 classes, please reach out to your assigned School Counselor so changes can be made prior to S2 classes beginning.
Junior and LC Information Meeting on Junior Year Planning
On November 20th from 12-12:30pm, School Counselors are holding a Junior Planning Information Session for all juniors and their LC's. We will be sharing a Junior Year Planning Timeline making sure you are on track and getting ready for Senior Year. After this school year, Juniors are over halfway done with their high school career. Time flies so we want to make sure students are prepared and have the resources they need to be successful here at WIVA and after graduation! :)

Suicide Awareness and Prevention Homeroom
On October 28th and November 4th, the School Counselors and our School Social Worker led a homeroom on Suicide Awareness and Prevention. We understand the sensitivity of this topic, so gave students space if they needed to leave homeroom or not attend. We provided support for any student wishing to speak individually after the homeroom as well. All students should have access to this video in Engageli during mandatory homeroom time.
