Finishing the Year Strong
Dear Families and School Community,
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, we want to encourage all our students to finish strong—with intention, focus, and purpose. May is a critical month of both academic achievement and extracurricular celebration.
We are currently in the midst of our Smarter Balanced Assessment—Student Achievement Season. This important time gives students the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned throughout the year. We encourage all students to do their best on the Math, English Language Arts (ELA), and 8th Grade Science state assessments. Your support in helping students come to school well-rested, on time, and ready to give their best effort is greatly appreciated.
Outside the classroom, our student athletes are already demonstrating excellence and commitment. We’re thrilled to be in the heart of track season, with our first home meet taking place on Thursday, May 1. Come out and cheer on our incredible student athletes as they represent our school with pride.
We’re also proud to showcase our talented performers in the upcoming Annie Jr. musical production, opening Friday, May 2 at 7:00 PM. Months of hard work and rehearsal will come to life on stage—don’t miss the chance to support our cast and crew!
Another highlight this month is our very first National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony, scheduled for May 20 from 5:00–6:30 PM. This event will honor students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.
As always, we are incredibly proud of how deeply our students are engaged in both their academics and extracurricular pursuits. They continue to inspire us with their energy, resilience, and dedication.
With warmer weather upon us, we’d also like to remind families about our school dress code. Modesty and appropriateness remain key in helping to maintain a focused and respectful learning environment.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We hope you’re enjoying the beautiful spring weather and look forward to a strong, successful finish to the school year!
Sincerely,
Laura Wellington, Principal and Chris Doll, Assistant Principal

A Word From Our Counselors
Happy May, Heatherwood Hawks!
As we continue through the last couple months of the school year, we want to highlight the growth, challenges, and achievements our students have undergone! Students have shown resilience and determination as they navigated their classrooms both academically and socially.
With two months left in the school year, it's both important (and can be especially challenging 🙂) to stay focused and motivated. Here are a few tips to help students navigate the remaining weeks:
- Stay Organized: Maintaining/creating a plan for completing assignments and studying for exams will continue to be important. If there are challenges, breaking tasks into smaller steps can make them more manageable.
- Manage Stress: With hopefully warmer weather, there are so many benefits from fresh air and exercise. Making sure that basic needs (sleep, nutrition, and movement) will also help stress more manageable.
- Seek Support: It's okay to ask for help! We hope students understand that whether it's from family, school staff, or peers, seeking support can make a big difference in and outside of the classroom.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to ensure everyone has a strong finish through June.
Warmest wishes,
HMS Counseling Team

Heatherwood ASB has wrapped up two fundraisers in April. The money will go towards the purchase of new reading chairs for the library and a new scoreboard for our athletic teams.
As the end of the year approaches, we are gearing up for ASB elections, which will be held throughout May. Our current ASB representatives look forward to welcoming next year’s leadership team!
