Woven Words
Florida Alpha Delta Kappa Vol 1 September 2024
President Message
August is filled with so many "new" events in Alpha Delta Kappa. The beginning of our chapter meetings, recruitment of new members, and officer training. And let me tell you, we had a fantastic officer training. During the three Saturdays in which ZOOM meetings were held, 250 Florida sisters were trained. It was very exciting to see so many eager to learn about their new role for this upcoming biennium. Thank you for those attending and making connections with your Florida Executive Board. If you could not attend, follow this path for the resources you need to fulfill your duties: www.alphadeltakappa.org >Members Only>Resource Library>Chapter Officers>Chapter Training Tools.
Life is a grand tapestry, a narrative that unfolds with each passing moment. It's a story we don't write alone; rather, it's a co-creation, an intricate weaving together of experiences, relationships, and shared moments. These "new" events this August in Alpha Delta Kappa are the beginning of this biennium's tapestry. Enjoy the experiences, relationships, and moments that are yet to come!

From Denise Fenicle, President Elect
One of my goals is to visit as many Florida chapters as I can over the next 3 biennia. If you haven't already, please let me know when your chapter usually meets. Also, if you are holding any special events, I would love to attend, if possible.
As you are planning for this biennium, remember to keep our state altruistic project in mind, Pace Center for Girls. Visit pacecenter.org for locations and information on how you can support your local Pace Center.
Membership Moment, Paula Byrd, VPM
Happy September, Sisters! I want to take a moment to thank everyone who attended the Chapter Membership Chairman training on either Aug. 10 or 17. We had great sessions. As your meetings resume this fall, there are two important points to attend to.
- Special deal for initiation: Remember that anyone initiated between September 1 and December 31 will pay their International, State and Chapter Dues. Their International dues are then good through Dec. of 2025. That's up to 15 months of dues for the price of 12!
- It's time for the Chapter Needs Assessment preparation. The CNA is due on a JotForm on the International website by October 15. Some of you have already completed this...CONGRATULATIONS! You can find the forms and tutorials on the International Website by following this pathway:
www.alphadeltakappa.org > Members Only > Resource Library > Chapter Officers > Chapter Documents and Forms > Chapter Needs Assessment
In this folder you will find tutorials and sample forms. I suggest printing out the sample, filling it in at your chapter meeting, and then completing the online form. Print the form before submitting, then print the confirmation email for your records. Let me know if you need assistance! I'll be glad to help!
Scholarship House Needs YOU!
Florida's Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship House, on the campus of Florida State University got a makeover this summer. Following the renovations of all the bathrooms, the kitchen was totally remodeled this summer: new cabinets, new countertops, new faucets and all new appliances including 2 high end LG stoves and 5 new refrigerators.
Before the reno began, the girls empited all the cabinets and got rid of any items the Scholarship House and the State Exective Board deemed unworthy of a new kitchen atmosphere.
For this reason, the Scholarship House Committee is asking for gift cards to purchase some of the new kitchen items, including countertop appliances, new kitchen textiles, cooking utensils and new pots and pans. We have seached online at Target, Walmart and Amazon for items needed. Please check you budgets and insure there is a line item to support the "House" and mail gift cards to Cheryl Jackson, 4104 Alpine Way, Tallahassee, FL 32303 or bring gift cards to State Leadership. The committee thanks you for all you do to support our girls!
Florida Past State Presidents' Scholarship
The Florida Past State Presidents’ Scholarship was created years ago to honor our past state presidents. Last biennium, we presented scholarships to students during the first half AND the second half of the biennium. Our state board has decided to again offer the scholarship(s) for both years of this biennium. However, this will not be possible unless we have the funds to do so. So, we
are asking all of our sisters to dig deep into their purses and please donate to this worthy cause. Your donations will depend on the number of scholarships that we can present.
Send your donations to State Treasurer Missy Decker, 7833 Feather Oaks Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32277. Make checks payable to FL Alpha Delta Kappa and make a note in the memo line that your check is for the Past State Presidents’ Scholarship fund. If you know someone who could use a $1,000 scholarship for the 2025 school year, by all means, make sure you send them the attached application. The applications are due by November 23, 2024. Share it with your family, friends, neighbors, etc. if you think they are deserving of our scholarship. The winner(s) will be announced at the January 2025 State Leadership Seminar.
