Veterans Day Celebration
Veterans Day at Hastings Middle School is one of the most special events during a student's 8th grade experience. On Monday, November 11th, we will honor over one hundred veterans from our community through a student-led ceremony in our Auditorium. These veterans were individually invited by our 8th grade students. Following the ceremony, the veterans will be treated to a reception in breakout rooms throughout our building.
During this event, our 8th graders will learn about the importance of veterans in our community, as these heroes will share their wisdom and stories with our youth. It promises to be a valuable and inspiring day of growth and appreciation for all who attend.
Additionally, our 6th and 7th grade students will participate in a "clap out," where the 8th grade students will walk the halls with the veterans. Many classrooms will create signs and decorations to enhance the celebration, and our visitors truly love this display of support and gratitude.
Hastings Fall Drama “A Night of One Acts”
The Hastings Fall Drama presents "A Night of One Acts" this Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:30. Over 130 students are involved in the cast and crew of three hilarious comedies. All tickets are $5 and can be bought at the door. Contact Dr. Monseur if you have any questions.
Spelling Bee
Any student at Hastings is welcome to partake in the Spelling Bee Qualifier on Wednesday, December 4th at 3:30pm in the cafeteria. Students with the highest scores will move on to the District Spelling Bee at Jones Middle School on January 8th! Please have your student stop by room 203 for a list of words to study prior to the qualifier.
Service Learning Highlight
Thank you to the students and advisory teachers from House 7 Black. They have been learning about food insecurity and the value of food pantries in communities. They collected over 850 pounds of food for the Northside Food Pantry.
Yearbook Photos Needed
As the fall sports season winds down, we want to capture the memories in our yearbook! If you have any pictures from the fall sports season, please email them to our yearbook advisor Allison Tomlin (atomlin@uaschools.org). Thank you!

Zen Den - Thank You!
The funding from UA+Ed came from a partnership with Franklin County, called UA Community Health Action Team (CHAT). Earlier this year Franklin County approved generous funding to UA CHAT that was designated to support mental health initiatives in our schools. We want to thank UA CHAT for making our Zen Den possible!

District Updates
Strategic plan update town hall meeting
Learn more about the strategic planning process by joining district leadership for a town hall meeting on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Upper Arlington High School. Attendees will hear a review of the research and work done to date and then break into smaller groups to learn about the steps planned to implement each strategy during the next five years.
Your voice matters! Phase two of facilities master planning
It’s time to join your friends and neighbors and get involved in phase two of facilities master planning! Upper Arlington Schools officially kicked off this community-driven process, focused on the aging middle schools and Burbank Early Childhood School, with the first round of community engagement sessions this week. All Upper Arlington stakeholders will be essential to this process, exploring both the physical and educational needs of each building and helping to identify possible solutions.
Join a building team! Serve as an expert and committed stakeholder for your school(s) of choice by signing up to volunteer for one or more building teams — Hastings, Jones or Burbank. Each team will have three meetings between December 2024 and April 2025. To sign up and learn more, visit the Building Teams page on our website.
Progress Reports
For families with students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), progress reports are available to view in PowerSchool.
Please follow the outlined steps to access your student’s progress report:
Once you are logged into PowerSchool, please click on the green box labeled “PR”
The icon should be at the top of the screen, but if you do not see it, please check on the left-hand side under graduation requirements.
If the green PR box is still not available, please reach out to your student's case manager.
IMPORTANT: If the progress report refers to an attachment, you must change the dropdown in the top right-hand corner next to your student's name from the progress report form to the attachment form.
Thanksgiving break food support
Once again, the district is partnering with Tri-Village Packers (TVP) to provide grocery support during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This food distribution can offset some of the increased food expenses associated with an extended break from school. Groceries are distributed at no cost to families who sign up for the program. Volunteers work to honor dietary needs/restrictions, and delivery is available for those who experience transportation barriers.
If you would benefit from this assistance, please sign up by completing this Google Form by November 8.
