FEBRUARY FEBRUARY

Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

Parents and Guardians,

Wow! We started the second semester, and we are well on our way with the 3rd quarter. Currently, we are focusing on data and data chats. It is my expectation that students know their data because they must own it. Our teachers are having these data chats to ensure students are aware of their performance and that they have a clear path towards their PM3 FAST goal. Please make sure you are asking your students what their learning gains goal is, and what does it takes to either stay proficient or achieve proficiency. If they met their learning goal for either subject on PM2, they received a certificate, and if they met their learning gain goal in both, they were invited to a FAST party on January 31st. We want to make sure that we are supporting all our students to become the best versions of themselves!

Sincerely,

Dr. Francisco Rivera Mieles

Narcoossee Middle School Principal

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) has proven time and time again that, when given resources and tools for academic rigor and support, virtually all students can be academically successful. AVID addresses the specific needs of students to help bridge the path from middle school to high school to higher educational completion. As your children look ahead and select classes next year, please consider AVID as a class to be used to guide and prepare them for future challenges. AVID not only provides academic support, but also exposes them to quality curriculum in preparation for college and career readiness. Middle school AVID applications will come home right after Spring Break. Have some discussion with your child about the possibility of selecting AVID at NCMS. High school class selection is also just around the corner. Students who select AVID in high school will complete financial aid applications, research career paths, and write college essays in preparation for their future. AVID moves with your child and supports their entire road to success! Take the time to discover what AVID can do for you and your child. You won’t be disappointed!

Medical Opt-In 2024-2025

Parents, please be aware that the Osceola School District's medical option form has been changed for the 2024-2025 school year. The new form requires parents to opt-in to any medical services for their children, instead of opting out as in years past. If a parent does not opt in, or does not make a selection, the school nurse will not provide medical services to your child. Only emergency medical services would be permitted.

Parents are asked to please log in to their FOCUS Parent Portal account and complete their medical opt-in/opt-out selection prior to the beginning of school. Besides being a "one-stop shop" for completing necessary educational forms and updating your child's important information, the FOCUS Parent Portal gives parents the opportunity to log in regularly to monitor your child’s progress and attendance in school throughout the school year.

Uploading an Absent Note

In our efforts to be more efficient and to decrease the volume of emails and paper usage, we are aiming to use the FOCUS Parent Portal for the purpose it was designed.

Box Tops for Education

We need your help to get more families to support the Box Tops program here at NARCOOSSEE MIDDLE SCHOOL. The more people that participate, the more our school can earn to help get the supplies it needs! This year, our goal is to earn $1,000.00 through Box Tops.

PLUS, you can earn a bonus for our school by inviting your friends, family, and other parents at NARCOOSSEE MIDDLE SCHOOL to sign up and participate in Box Tops. To refer friends to sign up, go to the Invite Friends section of the Box Tops app. (You can get there by tapping on the person icon in the upper-right corner of the app home screen.) You'll get a referral code that you can send to a friend. You'll BOTH earn Bonus Box Tops for our school when they scan their first receipt — that's extra cash that counts towards our Box Tops earnings goal of $1,000.00 this year.

Thanks for your help!
