March is Music In Our Schools Month
What is Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®)?
For more than 30 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation.
The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.
MIOSM and the events surrounding it are the ideal opportunities for increasing awareness of the benefits of high quality music education programs in our nation’s schools. NAfME hopes that teachers, students, and music supporters alike will find ways to join in on the celebration through creative activities and advocacy. Learn more about how NAfME works to support music education.
class and spring picture day - Wednesday, March 15th
Dorian is also offering optional spring pictures for those that would like to order. This is a great opportunity if your student missed getting their picture taken in the fall. If you would like your student to have an individual picture taken, they must have an order form with payment or a copy of their online order with them to give to the photographer on picture day.
Place your order today at https://mydorian.com/. Search for Fryelands Elementary, then click on the green "Order" button next to the Spring Picture Day event and place your order!
Don't miss out on getting a yearbook!
If you choose to send money in with your student, we can accept cash (exact amount only, we do not have change) or check made payable to Fryelands Elementary. The cost of the yearbook is $17.00.

Attention 5th Grade Parents! Make your 5th graders 2022-2023 yearbook extra special with a free PARENT SHOUT OUT in the yearbook! Send your shout out message and ONE picture to

2023 Read 4 Adventure Program
Our friends at High Trek Adventures understand how important it is to be encouraging young people to develop strong reading habits. They also know the value of getting the youth outside to enjoy the beautiful PNW.
With that in mind, they have partnered with us to offer a voucher for those who complete 8 hours of recreational reading minutes during the month of March.
Students can earn a voucher for one of their locations in the surrounding area.
This week, you should be receiving the Reading Log and more information about High Trek Adventures and the vouchers they will be offering.
The Read 4 Adventure program will run through the month of March. Have your student record their minutes on the Reading Log as they go. The goal is 480 minutes! Then, beginning April 1st, you can submit your student's minutes and voucher request online using the Student Submission Link on the Reading Log or with the provided QR code.
Contact your teacher or school library specialist with any questions.
Happy Reading!

WATCH D.O.G.S.
The Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S. program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations designed and developed by educators, experts and parent & guardian volunteers over more than two decades.
Our programs for Elementary and Secondary School campuses help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)?
Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures serve on campus for one day or many each year under the leadership of a program coordinator and under the guidance of a school principal or designated administrator.
If you are interested in signing up for a day, please stop by our office to check out our Watch D.O.G.S. calendar.
