Knighthawk Family News
Pleasant Knoll Middle School - August 2020
Message from Mrs. Hustedt
Knighthawk Families,
I hope that all of our families had a safe and wonderful summer! We are excited to welcome all of our students, parents, and teachers back for another great school year at PKMS.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our incoming 6th graders, as well as all our new students to PKMS! Our plan is to offer you a wonderful learning experience in a safe and inviting school.
This year we look forward to continuing to build on the culture that we have started at PKMS, and we also look forward to meeting the emotional, social, and academic needs of all of our students. We will continue to support our vision at PKMS... "As a community of learners, we strive to create a safe environment focused on high achievement through a rigorous curriculum and student/teacher engagement. We work to instill a sense of community and positive citizenship while encouraging our students to SOAR in STEAM initiatives and college/career readiness."
I know that right now we are facing many challenges and unknowns; however, I have no doubt that our Knighthawk team will come together to provide the best and safest educational experience for our students. Over the past few weeks, we have worked hard to reschedule, redesign, and restructure our procedures and policies. During the first week back, we will communicate these updates and practice them with our students.
Please take a moment to read through this newsletter for some important information about the upcoming school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me (hustedtc@fortmillschools.org) or call at 803-835-3770.
Again, I am excited for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing our Knighthawks on August 31st and Sept. 1st. No matter the location where our students' learning takes place, each and every one of them will always be a Knighthawk.

Nurse News
ATTENTION: 7th GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Please make an appointment for your child to update their Tdap vaccination. ALL seventh graders will be REQUIRED to get the Tdap vaccine to protect them against whooping cough (pertussis). One (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered on or after the 7th birthday will be required for all seventh graders. It is strongly recommended that adolescents who have not yet received a dose of Tdap vaccine be immunized in advance of this requirement. Students who are not up to date with their Tdap vaccination may not be allowed to attend school.
Students have only 30 calendar days (from the first day of school 9/29/2020) to be in compliance with having a valid certificate according to the state’s regulations.
Please send a copy of the immunization record to the school nurse once they receive the updated vaccination.
This applies to virtual students as well.
