We value your involvement and extend a yearlong invitation to our parents to join us at school activities and events whenever you can.

7th Grade Orientation - Monday, August 5th from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
We are excited to invite our incoming 7th-grade students to the 7th grade Orientation Day on August 5, 2024. Our school participates in a nationwide program we call STRIVE. The purpose of the organization is to help 7th graders have a positive and successful middle school experience.
The 7th-grade orientation will be a fun and informative 4 hours of activities designed to help our incoming 7th graders learn more about what they can expect this year at MMS as well as answer questions they may have. It will be led by our STRIVE student leaders and teachers. The student leaders for MMS were carefully selected from a large pool of applicants and have met the qualifications to be good role models and positive leaders on our campus.

*Student Fee Information
As every parent knows, our elementary and intermediate schools typically have school-wide fundraisers to provide funds for numerous school needs. These needs include materials and equipment used for classroom activities, consumable materials for the classrooms, technology needs, student rewards, and more. Over the years, middle school administration has received many comments from parents who were tired of these and would prefer to simply contribute the money they would spend themselves on the fundraiser.
As a result, school-wide fundraisers at the middle school level have been replaced with a student fee. We are asking parents to pay a $20 student fee for the 2024-2025 school year.
This fee can be paid at schedule pick up or online (after August 1st) by using the following link:
https://ok-mustang.intouchreceipting.com/
Our hope is that it simplifies your life by eliminating the school-wide fundraisers and the fees that have typically taken place.
NOTE: If your child is involved in extracurricular activities such as athletics, band, vocal, etc., there will still be some program-specific fundraisers your child may be asked to participate in order to raise funds specifically for that program.
School Supply List
Below are the school supply lists for the 2024-2025 school year. You may also access them by clicking the link. School supply lists are always available on the school/district website.
PTD Policy
Technology can be a wonderful resource in education. However, the use of cell phones and other personal technology devices (PTDs) are incredibly distracting to the learning environment. At MMS, we have the following policy to ensure the least amount of distraction to our students' learning experiences.
Mustang Middle School Personal Technology Device (PTD) Policy
All cell phone/PTD practices at MMS will follow Mustang Public School district policy #2140. All practices/policies apply to all students with or without contracts on file and apply to all non-school issued technology devices. PTDs include but are not limited to laptops, computers, tablets, cellular phones, smart phones, smart watches, ear pods, or headphones. Portable speakers are specifically prohibited at all times.
Cell phones/PTDs are allowed:
Before school in the gym and the cafeteria.
After school in the cafeteria.
To be used only by the student to whom it belongs.
*Any of the above may be revised anytime at administration’s discretion.
*Cell phone/PTD use in any instance does not grant permission for other situations.
Cell phones/PTDs are NOT allowed (must be off and inside backpack):
In the classroom, between classes and in the bathrooms.
To be used to photograph or record another student or staff member (includes buses).
In the hallways.
After leaving the gym or cafeteria before school.
During a school assembly.
In any manner that causes a disruption to the school day for any student or staff member.
To access inappropriate material while on school property.
To be used to bully, harass, threaten, intimidate, or otherwise tease another student.
In a hand or pocket during above stated restricted times or areas.
Standard consequences of violation of school cell phone/PTD policy/contract (actual consequences may vary due to severity of the violation):
1st violation: Cell phone/PTD will be kept in the office and returned to the student at the end of the day
2nd violation: Cell phone/PTD will be kept in the office and returned to the student at the end of the day

If you need to get in contact with your child, please contact the MMS office at 405-376-2448.
Mustang Public School Attendance Policy
Chronic absenteeism is a significant challenge facing students, educators, and districts all over the country. MPS has a new attendance policy to counteract against this issue. The Mustang Board approved a change to Board Policy 5020 covering student attendance. Beginning in the 2024/2025 school the number of allowable absences will be reduced from ten (10) to eight (8). Below is information explaining how MPS will continue to work against chronic absenteeism and strive for consistent attendance and meaningful learning.
Fight Chronic Absenteeism
Introducing the "Every Moment Matters" Campaign:
To promote regular attendance, we’re launching the “Every Moment Matters” campaign. This initiative will highlight the significant learning moments that students miss when they are absent. Utilizing the hashtag #EveryMomentMatters, we will feature classroom achievements and stories on social media that illustrate the vibrant daily activities at MPS.
Even so, this is not an invitation for contagiously ill students to attend school; there must be a balance between attendance and health. Our website provides clear guidelines on when to stay home through easily accessible infographics.
For more information on Chronic Absenteeism, please visit the OSDE website at https://sde.ok.gov/chronic-absenteeism.
Daily Schedule
Below is the daily bell schedule. Additional information regarding electives, W.I.N. time, and ELA is below the schedule.
Electives, ELA, and W.I.N Time
We understand the transition to middle school can be challenging. We would like to share some information with you all about opportunities offered here at MMS. Students are able to take up to eight elective courses during the school year. They can be nine weeks, a semester long, or year long course depending on the content. Incoming 7th grade students have three required electives they will complete. Bronco 101, Spanish, and Intro to Computer Apps. During their time at MMS, students take two English Language Arts classes each year, ELA 1 and ELA 2. ELA 1 focuses reading instruction, while ELA 2 is centered around writing instruction. Students will have eight class periods each day. Sixth period, known as W.I.N. (What I Need) Time, will be a thirty minute period each day. This class is a designated period of intervention for students who may need additional support or enrichment in certain subject areas. Students will have the opportunity to work in smaller groups with teachers to practice or enrich their skill sets related to the learning goals.
First Day of School - Tuesday, August 13, 2024
Students are to bring school supplies on the first few days of school. Supplies can be brought in increments so that students aren’t overloaded on the first day.
If your student rides the bus, please be sure they know their BUS NUMBER so they will know what bus to look for after school! We also ask for your patience during the first few days. There will be delays with buses both before and after school, but it will improve within the first full week!
The school day is 8:40 am - 3:35 pm. Please do not drop your student off earlier than 8:10. Students may not enter the building prior to 8:10 throughout the school year because there is no adult supervision available prior to this time.
If you drop off your student after 8:35am, please bring them to Door 1 on the West side of the building.
Stay informed throughout the year by checking our website regularly!
Important Dates
Throughout the year, the district calendar is an excellent resource to use. It keeps track of district wide events, teacher work days, holiday breaks, and much more! Please click the link to view all of the wonderful things happening in our district!
Dress Code
As students transition to middle school, there may be some questions related to our dress code. You may see the dress code below or click on the link to learn more about the dress code.
Drop Off and Pick Up
See the picture below for the traffic flow of student drop-off and pick-up. Please note that students should never cross the parking lot and should always use the crosswalks on the East and West sides of the lot when making their way North of the school.
Please do not park in the north parking lot when picking up students. This requires students to cross through the pickup line and through several lanes of traffic. Please follow the arrows on the pavement for the safety of everyone.
Thank you to Mr. Peter Bostwick! We are very fortunate to have him at MMS to assist with student safety in the parking lot and on the west crosswalk in the mornings and afternoons.
Mustang Transportation
Mustang Public Schools has a dedicated transportation department. Please take time to read the message from our transportation department. You may also visit the website to gain helpful and necessary information about routes, buses, bus stop locations, and much more!
A Message From the Transportation Department
Please review the district-wide expectations regarding student conduct on buses. In order to provide safe transportation to and from school, it is very important that all students adhere to the following expectations.
STUDENT CONDUCT ON BUSES
Riding a school bus is a privilege and students must maintain safe and respectful conduct to ensure safe travel to and from school. Student safety is our main priority and rules that are enforced at school also apply on the bus. Our bus drivers have the same authority over pupils while riding buses as the teachers have while in school.
The following rules and regulations shall govern the conduct of school bus passengers:
Students must be respectful of the driver and other passengers at all times;
All students must stay in their seats from the time they load the bus to the time they exit the bus;
Students must keep their hands and feet to themselves;
Students must avoid tampering with the windows or the emergency door of the bus unless instructed by the driver to do so.
Disruptive behaviors, which potentially jeopardize the safety of all passengers, will not be tolerated. The following are some examples of disruptive behaviors which may bypass the warning and result in the loss of bus-riding privileges:
Fighting, shouting, profanity, horseplay, using tobacco or electronic cigarettes, extending any part of the body through an open window, throwing objects, refusing to obey the bus driver, *vandalism.
*Students who deface or vandalize a school bus in any way may have bus riding privileges suspended and will not be permitted to resume bus privileges until all damages are paid.
The following items will not be permitted on the bus:
Balloons
Glass containers
Trash from snacks and drinks
WRITTEN CONDUCT REPORT
A written report about a student’s unsatisfactory conduct will be issued by the bus driver and delivered to the school principal for disciplinary action. The action taken by the principal may include short-term or permanent suspension from bus riding privileges and/or suspension from school- depending on the severity of the behavior.
Federal Meal Waiver
Mustang Public Schools offers free meals or reduced-priced meals to eligible students!
More than 30 percent of Mustang Public Schools' families qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch program. Even parents who believe they will not qualify are encouraged to apply for this
much-needed program. Applying for the program is confidential and significantly helps with funding for classrooms. Our enrollment percentage in this program generates additional money and resources for students at Mustang Schools!
- Your student could receive nutritious meals for NO COST or at a significantly reduced cost.
- Enrollment in this program could make your home internet service more affordable.
- Federal funding and grants are available for MPS based on the number who qualify.

Mustang Middle School Extracurriculars
We are so fortunate to be able to offer a variety of opportunities for our students. MMS is proud to offer Band, Choir, Robotics, Student Council, Academic Team, and a wide range of sports. Information regarding these activities will be sent home through newsletters, emails, and updated on our website and social media platforms as they become available. Mustang Middle School Athletics
All athletes must have an OSSAA physical on file and RankOne forms completed before they will be allowed to practice.

Click here to check out the MMS athletics website.
If you need additional information, please contact the MMS athletic director, Chris Sawyer at sawyerch@mustangps.org.
Water Bottles
We have a new expectation for student water bottles at Mustang Middle School. Pretty simply, anything a student drinks out of will need to be considered "spill proof." If we can turn it upside down, and it leaks, we will ask the student to take it to the front office to be picked up at the conclusion of the school day.
