Open House Held to Say Farewell to the Old Building
On Wednesday, Janaury 29th, there was an Open House held in the Old High School for the community to view the old building. Unanticipated findings with the renovation project in the cafeteria and old junior high changed the trajectory of planning an Open House during a weekend in February or March. The building is now closed down until the end of March due to abatement that was supposed to occur late spring. The power to the building will also be shut down in March. Plans are being made to have one more Open House prior to demolition; however, there will not be power in the building when we do this. We will try to have it on a Saturday or Sunday so people that are out of town can attend. Once we have more information on the renovation timeline, we will send that out.
There were several questions asked during the event that we are working on answers for -
What are we doing with the lockers? If you are interested in the lockers, please email Mrs. Larson at jlarson@pretzelpride.com
Is the clock on the hill from the Class of 1922 going to the new building? Yes.
Where are the class composites that hung in the hallways? They are in storage and will remain in storage. They have not been nor will not be thrown away. They were taken down 12 years ago when the high school hallways needed painted. The Photography Classes and Art Club captured the Class Composites of 1953-2010 digitally and a presentation of the pictures has been on Pretzels Alumni website since 2012. When we are finished with the building project, the presentaiton will be updated with prior classes and recent classes and displayed on monitors at the entry of the school and by the Dome. ACT Prep Course for Juniors in January and February
Mrs. Pecoraro will be offereing an ACT Prep Course to Juniors during Advisory beginning the week of January 21st. We have access to this course through our Learning Express data base. Students that do not have an advisory due to CACC or Zero Hour can do this on their own; however, all juniors that are in Advisory will register and start the course with her during January and February. This is a great opportunity for our students and we appreciate Mrs. Pecoraro's expertise in sharing this with our students! Juniors will need to register for the course (the slide below was shared with them via email). An outline of the course is also included below.
School Attendance Matters!
Here is our building's Weekly Attendance Update through January 31st.
What is 211?
With approximately 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the United States plus scores of
government agencies, finding help can be confusing and intimidating. People who need help
often do not know where to begin.
211 call centers are staffed by trained specialists who quickly assess the callers’ needs and
refer them to the help they seek. It’s simple to remember, accessible to everyone, toll-free,
available 24/7, with multilingual capabilities.
211 in Sangamon and Menard County is funded by United Way of Central Illinois. By bringing
this service to the community, especially at a time when more individuals and families need
health and human service support, United Way is fulfilling its mission of mobilizing resources to
meet community needs.
