A Letter from Your Principal
Mustang community,
And so it begins! I can’t tell you how excited we are to begin the 2022/2023 school year. We have had a great summer with athletes, performing arts, and student leadership groups preparing for the year ahead. Our teachers have returned motivated to take their students to new heights. Every new school year brings a ton of information but we have tried to arrange our North Notes newsletter that in an accessible manner that serves as a resource for week to week communication. As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Please pay specific attention to our bell schedule and note that school will now be dismissed at 2:45. We are also excited to welcome our New Mustangs from 7:40-10:45 on August 16. School begins for all students on Wednesday, August 17. The first three days of school will be traditional 7 period days with NO late arrival. Late arrival will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting the week of August 22. I would also like you to put our Back to School Night on your calendar for Tuesday, August 23 from 5:45-8:00. This is a great night to go through your students’ schedule and meet their teachers.
We can’t wait to see everyone next week. Here’s to a GREAT 2022/2023 school year!
Johnny Rowlands and NewsChopper 9 are coming to North!
KMBC 9 News is doing a back-to-school special feature titled “Banding Together” on the morning of August 22. At 7 a.m., all BVN students are invited to join the marching band outside on the softball field to watch the landing and takeoff of the NewsChopper 9 helicopter. Teachers should of course join outside as well, as all of this is to salute them for their hard work. Johnny will make a short presentation to BVN teachers. Students are encouraged to bring large banners and signs thanking their teachers and welcoming KMBC & KCWE to the school for the aerial shots. This presentation is optional and should conclude in time for students to make it to their 1st hour class.

Parent Communication
North Notes is the weekly parent newsletter for parents and is emailed every Friday, when school is in session. Please read it! It has schedule changes, event information, deadlines and other important information. On Friday mornings during the fall semester, a Freshmen email will be sent to ninth grade parents. It provides more detailed information and helpful tips about high school life at BV North. Once you have completed your on-line registration for this school year, North Notes and the Freshmen email will be sent to your primary email account. If you and your spouse both want to receive email communication, you each will need to establish a ParentVue account. Please contact our registrar at sdoherty@bluevalleyk12.org to request a second ParentVUE account.

Calling all Mustangs with an interest in Music!
Have you had an interest in taking a music class but don’t know how to get started/where you might fit in? The world of music is huge, ever-expanding, and welcoming to many different talents and interests. This fall – Mr. Freeman (band director) is offering a chance for you to explore your musical path in a non-traditional music class (not a band/choir/orchestra class). If you are interested, please email Mr. Freeman: djfreeman@bluevalleyk12.org. Bring your big musical ideas!
BVN Football Program needs Managers!
Interested in being part of a team?! The football program is looking for a few more football managers for this upcoming season! Whether you are an interested freshman or senior, this is a great way to meet new friends, get some sun, and contribute to an awesome football program! Pleas contact Coach Pummill @ apummill@blueballeyK12.org if interested.
“Our football managers are every bit as important as our players. They are the glue which holds our team together…and we try and make it a really fun experience where they don’t just “feel” part of the team…they know they are a huge part of our team.” -Coach Pummill
National Honor Society Info for 2022-23 School Year
Are you a student who is in the class of 2023 or class of 2024 and have a 3.5 GPA or higher? Are you interested in being a candidate for National Honor Society induction in the fall? If so, please read on. Students need 40 hours of community service from January 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022. These hours must come from non-profit 501c3 organizations.
We will not count hours such as walking dogs, babysitting a neighbor, helping someone move, tutoring, volunteering at country clubs, etc. Students should already be on x2VOL, the platform that tracks hours, and should be recording and verifying hours on this online site. An individual from the organization must verify hours with an email that is from a .org email address. Look online for opportunities that are posted on the x2VOL website. If you are questioning if hours count as community service, please contact Mrs. Cornelius and Mrs. Stein to get prior authorization.
Information will be sent out in the fall. Tentative dates for the initial information meeting are Wednesday September 21, at 3:00 p.m. in the PAC and Thursday, September 22, at 8:00 a.m. in the PAC. Attendance at one of these two dates is mandatory! We will hand out all information to students at this meeting. Other than community service hours, students do not need to work on anything else prior to this meeting.
Mandatory induction practice is Monday, November 7, 2022, at 7:00 a.m. and the mandatory Induction Ceremony is Monday, November 7, 2022, at 6:30 p.m.
Feel free to reach out to Ms. Cornelius (acornelius@bluevalleyk12.org) or Mrs. Stein (sistein@bluevalleyk12.org) with any questions.

Please Join The Mustang Club during 2022-23!
Our parent community has been integral in contributing to our status as one of the best high schools in the state of Kansas and a leading high school across the nation.
Please support The Mustang Club (previously known as BVN Parent Booster Club). The Mustang Club financially supports BVN's extracurricular activities (as our version of a traditional PTO/PTA), and over the last 7 years, The Mustang Club has granted over a half million dollars to support our school’s extracurricular activities, organizations, and athletic teams. We could not provide the depth and breadth of opportunities that are available without your participation through membership and donations of your time.
The Mustang Club needs your support! Membership is down and volunteers are in short supply. Here are some options for you to consider:
· Become a Mustang Club member at one of the five membership levels;
· Purchase spirit wear from The Mustang Club website (www.bvnmustangs.com);
· Volunteer on a Mustang Club committee to support a specific event or cause; and
· Take advantage of one of the many sponsorship opportunities available for those of you affiliated with companies that want to support BVN financially.
You can find everything you need to know about The Mustang Club & membership at www.bvnmustangs.com. As you know, this organization is completely run by parent volunteers so every dollar donated goes to benefit BVN students. Additionally, the organization is a 501(c)3 so your contributions are tax deductible.
Thank you for your support and consideration and GO MUSTANGS!
We are Mustang Proud!
