From the Desk of Ms. Murdock
Hello GMSS families,
Welcome to spring ahead and the final quarter of the school year. We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and students are ready to finish strong.
We will be meeting this week for our community meetings to reset and set goals. I will share the information from the discussions.
Students!!! We need to continue working on preparation for the days. Often we are not seeing charged chrome books and many students do not bring pencils or paper. Please help your children work on increasing this responsibility. This is incredibly important as we are moving toward state testing. We do not have loaner chrome books or chargers.
Have a fabulous week!

COFFEE!
Join District leaders for Coffee and Conversation on March 13 at 6:30-8:00 p.m. Come to Panera to talk about all things GJPS!
BUSES
As a reminder, please know the time of your student's bus stop. We are happy to offer Here Comes the Bus as an aide for parents tracking their student's bus, but there may be some times when the app is not exact. We certainly do not want students to miss the bus, so please be sure your student is at their stop at the scheduled time. To remind yourself of your pickup time, visit our Transfinder page.
HEART & PRIDE
The Heart & Pride Nomination Form will remain available year-round and is open to any member of our staff, regardless of position.
SHADOW DAY
8th grade students:
It has been a longstanding tradition for all three middle schools to partake in an 8th Grade career Shadowing Day. This year, that day will fall on Thursday, April 25th. The students last year were able to participate in a variety of different shadowing opportunities. English classes will begin to introduce the concept of Shadowing Day early this week. Please inquire with your student about their initial thinking for this, as the 25th will be approaching sooner than expected, along with the permission slips being due on the 11th.
Please understand that the best opportunities found for students last year were usually the ones who were proactive in the process. Many students also chose to pair up with friends to make this a collaborative opportunity. Options are provided by the district to students who are unable to find a position, but as of now that cap is at 50 between all three middle schools. Be on the lookout for the physical shadowing packet which students will receive this week in English classes. We are excited that 8th Graders will be participating in this opportunity, while most importantly, they do NOT attend school on April 25th!
In addition 6th & 7th grade students will be introduced to "Move up day" on April 25th. We will have the next grade staff working with students.

ROX
39% of girls say they are sad or depressed for most of the week. Rates of daily sadness have tripled for 5th and 6th grade girls and more than doubled for 7th and 8th grade girls.
So what can you do to help? To navigate these growing-up years, girls need caregivers to listen and encourage them along the way. Because that once bold, confident girl still resides within her, she just needs you.
Join Ruling Our eXperiences (ROX), a district partner and local nonprofit, for their fun and empowering workshops for girls (grades 4-5 and 6-8) and their moms and dads to strengthen communication and build connection.
