Chorus, Strings, and Guitar Perform at Woodgrove HS
Our music department got off to a hot start the last few weeks, performing at Woodgrove HS with its annual fall concerts. Our middle school students were on stage first and later were able to hear their future counterparts from the Woodgrove HS music department. The evening lasted an hour and were a wonderful way for middle school students to see and hear what they could be doing in high school. It was also Ms. Washington's birthday and one of the pieces was composed by Mr. Schear.
Here's a recording of the choral performance (strings and guitar not available):
Social Studies 7 Relives Land Grab
In the late 1800's, the United States set up the now famous Land Rush. One of them was called the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. Our clever teachers simulated this event with their classes by having them ride their "horses" about 50 yards to the nearest random claims hidden in the grass. Some of those claims were bad ("killed" or "bitten by a snake") and others were "successful."
Kudos to staff on the engaging and fun activity for students that taught them what the Land Grab was all about. See pictures above.
Climate News
LCPS Photo Contest
Recently LCPS and Superintendent Aaron Spence launched a fun LCPS One Photo Day to promote climate and collegiality. Staff were encouraged to take photos in their spirit wear and use props sent by LCPS in the picture. Categories included Best Smiles, Best Use of Music Instruments, and Best Photo with a Business Partner. Check out the photo of Mr. Stewart with Dr. Tari (Tari Orthodontics) and staff.
Staff Recognition
This week we recognize TWO teachers!
"Every time I think Lisa Washington can’t possibly get any better, she goes and clearly raises the bar once again. I’ve had the tremendous pleasure of watching the output of her work with the kids in our community for many years now, and last night at Woodgrove High School, the middle school choral program at Harmony showed out with degrees of very rarified excellence. The boys I personally thought were great and Mr. Wells seems like a solid program pick up with the right energy and passion. I’m excited to see how he positively impact the program moving forward.
The Harmony girls was hair standing up on my arms, tears welling up in my eyes, next level performing. Truly special to behold with the pitch control, and the power they intermixed together. I would gladly pay to hear them again! Utterly and completely impressed with Lisa’s transformative ability with the children. Thank so very much for sharing her with us and for your continued support for that amazing program. Brings joy to this parent’s heart every time I get to watch her work and her students perform. Best regards, Paul Bundick" (parent)
"...I wanted you to know that Mr. Bell has been doing a great job sending positive emails to parents. He sends several a week and the parents are so excited to hear positive things about their child!! I see good things going on in House B." (staff)
Thank you parents and staff for submitting names. If you would like to recognize a staff member, please email eric.stewart@lcps.org)
Hurricane Relief Drive
Our Student Council Association is collecting SCHOOL SUPPLIES & other needed personal items listed on your collection boxes for HURRICANE DISASTER RELIEF. This will assist the Buncombe, NC school system throughout the month of October.
Please bring in any new supplies and place them in the box at the entrance to your grade level house.
THANK YOU for YOUR GENEROUS HELP and SUPPORT!
Kindness Lesson
This week, our advisory lesson centered around kindness, focusing specifically on eliminating all forms of hate speech. Parents—ask your students to explain the 30-second rule, and the SOAR pledge. Thanks for helping to make Harmony a "No Place for Hate" school!

Harmony Admin Reaching Out to Students and Staff
Our three deans, two assistants, and principal have been reaching out to families to check on how their kids are doing. Last week they passed contacting 100 families for the year!
The Admin team also cooked breakfast for the entire staff (this morning, Oct 18). They flipped pancakes, made sausage, scrambled eggs, and tried to take care of the staff. Our PTA provided coffee. A prize was given to the 50th staff served; Sarah Schiavo! THANK YOU staff, for working at Harmony. We love you!
Musical Auditions to Start Soon
See information here for details about the school musical. Info will also be put on the Harmony PTA page. Break a leg, students.
YEARBOOK
Interested in purchasing a yearbook this year? For a limited time, the yearbook will be $30, until the price goes up on December 1. To guarantee your student receives a yearbook, please go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and type in school code 21667 to order.
We also need 8th Grade students’ baby pictures! To submit your picture, please follow the guidelines below. Emailed photos will not be accepted. Photos must be uploaded to eShare no later than Friday, 11/22.
- Please send only one baby picture of your 8th grade student.
- The photos will be rectangular in the yearbook, so a vertical picture is better. Also, a close-up of the face is better than a full-body photo.
- Please make sure the picture is good quality. Taking a picture of a picture on your computer screen will not work because of the poor resolution.
- Please send a picture of your student by themselves. If you send a picture with a sibling or parent, the other people will be cropped out of the photo which may detract from the quality of the image.
- Follow the prompts in eShare to identify the student by first and last name. You can access eShare by going to www.yearbookshare.com and enter school code 21667.
If you have any questions about anything yearbook, please contact Jennifer Heffron, Yearbook Adviser, at jennifer.heffron@lcps.org.
