~ Hawley School Newsletter: October 20, 2024 ~
~ From the Desk of Mr. Moretti ~
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
We are already well into October. Busy, Busy, Busy. We had our Specials Open House, Mum Sales, Picture Day, Custodian Appreciation Day, and the PTA Spooktacular. And, Best of All: Mets Baseball continues ;0)~.
Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....
~ Bus Safety Week ~
October 21-25 is National Bus Safety Week. Please help us kick-off a school wide bus safety initiative by sharing the attached safety tips with your children.
4th Graders are invited to participate in a Bus Safety Poster Contest. Their teachers have given them the details. One winner will be chosen. Their poster will be enlarged and hung throughout the building as a reminder to students to have safe behavior on the bus.
3rd Graders will be invited to share one of the attached safety tips over the announcements with Mr. Moretti. Please review them with your children and talk about other ways to stay safe on the bus.
All students will participate in class discussions and sign their names to a giant school bus that will serve as a promise to show good citizenship on the bus.
Please reach out to Ms. Tischio for more information (tischioc@newtown.k12.ct.us).
Thank you for your help!

~Halloween / Costumes~
This year, the staff of Hawley would like to have students wear Halloween Costumes for their Halloween parties. We would like your help in making this fun and safe for all. Please follow these Costume Guidelines:
- Costumes are only being worn for parties so please do not wear them in but have them in a bag to be changed into
- No masks or face coverings
- No blood
- No weapons of any kind
- Any student not wanting to wear a costume may wear Orange and Black or dress as usual.
Although this may create some challenges for you, I am sure that you can understand why we are asking for the above guidelines. Please follow these guidelines so we do not have to take something away from a student or alter a costume to participate.
We THANK YOU for your support;
Please reach out with any questions that you may have.

Out of the Mouths of Babes....
Mr. M walked into the MPR to see how Picture Day was going.
" Are you getting your picture taken Mr M " a student asked
" No, I am just here to see how it is going. You look very nice for your picture " Mr. M replied
The child frowned and said, " I guess, my mom made me wear this sweater. "
" What did you want to wear? " Mr. M inquired
" Not THIS sweater! "
